“Best.”
“So, do you still want to go on that business trip? If so, I’ll give you the chance. There are some important matters that either you or I need to handle.”
“I’ll go. I need to think carefully about how to make Seren less angry.”
Josh smiled. “That means I can take a break. You owe me quite a bit of vacation time.”
“Take a break if you want. Let Callum take on more tasks.”
Zachary also felt guilty for often treating Josh like a workhorse.
Beep beep.
Zachary’s phone buzzed.
He pulled out his phone and saw a message from Serenity, which made the lines on his face soften. Josh, with his keen eye, quickly guessed it was from Serenity and joked, “One message from your wife is enough to turn a snowy day sunny. Zachary, you’re hopeless.”
Zachary ignored him.
Serenity’s message informed him that she was back at the store. He called her immediately, and she answered quickly. “I sent you a message to let you know I’m back, so you don’t need to worry. Why did you call, anyway? Isn’t that going to interfere with your work?”
“It’s fine. I just needed to get some water and wanted to hear your voice.”
Serenity laughed on the phone. “We just saw each other not long ago.”
“I want to stick to you like gum and be with you every day.” Josh was left speechless.
Should I step out? Listening to Zachary’s sweet talk is giving me goosebumps. Serenity was taken aback by Zachary’s affectionate words and replied, “Zachary, are you okay? Your words are… I’m not quite used to this.” She was accustomed to his serious demeanor and found it unusual to hear such sentimental expressions.
Zachary paused and admitted, “Yeah, I’m not used to saying things like this either.”
He should stop adopting those cringy expressions from others and just be himself with her. “Yep. I got goosebumps,” Zachary thought to himself while complaining to his grandmother, ‘You always criticize me for not knowing how to say sweet nothings, but look, Serenity doesn’t appreciate it when I use mushy words.’
