Chapter 513
After a prolonged silence, Hank finally spoke, “Liberty, if I agree to your terms for dividing the property, will you truly provide me with all the evidence you possess and promise not to report me to my boss?”
“As long as I receive what I rightfully deserve, I assure you that I won’t seek revenge against you,” Liberty replied.
However, she could not guarantee that Serenity or Zachary would remain passive.
After contemplating for a moment, Hank replied, “I can provide you with money, but I cannot hand over custody of Sonny. He is my flesh and blood, and my parents adore him.”
“I won’t relinquish custody of Sonny,” Liberty insisted.
Hank feared that if he granted Liberty custody, his parents might harm him when he returned home.
Moreover, Sonny was his son and currently his only child, making it even harder for him to let go.
In frustration, Liberty raised her hand and splashed the remaining juice onto Hank’s face.
“Hank, how can you still have the audacity to fight for Sonny’s custody? How dare you claim him as your flesh and blood and your parents’ grandson? Just look at how you all have treated him.”
“Sonny still cries frequently, and the bruises on his face haven’t healed. Haven’t you caused enough damage to him? Will you only be satisfied when he suffers even more because of your family?”
Hank appeared pitiful with juice smeared across his face, further irritating him.
Jessica quickly grabbed a tissue and helped him wipe the juice off his face. She then addressed Liberty, saying, “Didn’t you say you wanted to talk properly? Why did you splash juice on Hank and stain his suit? Are you going to pay for his dry cleaning?”
“Ms. Yates, I don’t think you understand the situation yet,” Liberty replied sarcastically. “Until our divorce is finalized, Hank is still legally my husband, so what’s his is mine as well. What right do you have to ask me to cover his dry cleaning? Who do you think you are?”
Jessica was so furious that her face turned red.
“Jessica,”
Hank said gently, “I’m fine. Don’t get upset because of her. If you do, I’ll feel bad for you.”
Jessica replied softly, “But I feel bad for you.”
Liberty looked at the two, mocking their display of affection.
Hank was completely dead to her. Did he think Liberty would be agitated by his and Jessica’s lovey-dovey behavior?
That would only make Liberty feel nauseous.
“Liberty,”
Hank suppressed his anger and continued, “What happened with Sonny was an accident. Matthew and Lucas are still young and immature. We’ve already addressed their behavior and taught Matthew a lesson. He apologized to Sonny, and my sister compensated Sonny with fifty thousand dollars for emotional distress.
“So let’s just put an end to this, okay? I assure you this won’t happen again. My parents have moved from my sister’s house to mine, so they will take care of Sonny heartily in the future.”
“Sonny’s custody belongs to me.”
“If you agree to relinquish custody of Sonny, I’ll transfer half of my savings to you right now. After that, we can head to City Hall to finalize the divorce.”
It happened to be a Monday, so City Hall was open.
Since it was just after lunch, they still had time to complete the necessary formalities.
Transferring money to Liberty would be straightforward, as Hank was a VIP customer at the bank. Therefore, he could complete the transfer quickly.
“Hank, I need to speak with Ms. Yates alone. Please give us some privacy.”
Hank and Jessica exchanged glances. Jessica softly reassured him, “Don’t worry; I won’t let her intimidate me. You should go outside first. I’m curious about what she wants to discuss.” “Liberty, communicate properly. Avoid using your fists!”
