Chapter 504
“My breakfast is probably cold by now. I’ll go warm it up in the kitchen. Elisa, since you’re a regular here, please keep Mrs. Stone entertained.”
Elisa responded with a smile, “Don’t worry. My mom and I won’t be strangers here. Your shop feels like home to me.”
Serenity thought to herself, ‘My shop doesn’t meet the standards of your family’s wealth.’
She took the breakfast that Zachary had packed for her to the kitchen, heated it up, and enjoyed her meal there.
Zachary prepared her hot cocoa, which remained warm thanks to the insulated cup.
With the weather turning chilly and Aunt Flo paying a visit, Serenity felt cold in her arms and legs. As she cupped the insulated cup, the warmth of the hot cocoa spread through her after she took a sip.
Ring, ring, ring…
Her phone rang.
While sipping her hot cocoa, she checked her phone. It was Zachary. She answered the call.
“Are you at the shop?”
Zachary glanced at the time before calling her.
“Yes, I’m at the shop.”
“What are you eating?”
“I’m having the breakfast you lovingly packed for me this morning. I’m also enjoying the hot cocoa you made; it tastes nice and light, and the hint of cinnamon really enhances the sweetness.”
Zachary scolded her, “What time is it, and you’re only having breakfast now?”
“I wouldn’t be having breakfast now if a certain petty fool hadn’t just turned around and run away.”
Zachary replied, “That’s on me. I promise I won’t do that again.”
“Don’t make promises. That’s just how you are. You
“I can’t change that,” Serenity said with a giggle. “I don’t want everything to blow up in your face again. You have a good-looking face, and it wouldn’t be nice for it to be covered in mess after an explosion.”
Zachary was left speechless. Aside from Nana, Serenity was the only person who could embarrass him.
“Are you coming over for lunch? I might not have time to make anything, though; I’ll probably just eat out.” She planned to treat Elisa and Mrs. Stone to lunch.
“Is Ms. Stone at your shop?”
“Yeah. I’m going to buy them lunch later. Elisa has been a huge help to me.”
Zachary grumbled internally, thinking, ‘I’ve helped you a lot too, but you never treat me to a meal.’ Still, he replied, “I’ll wire you some money. Take them to a nice restaurant for lunch. I can’t get away from work this afternoon, so I won’t be able to come over.”
Serenity responded with a grin, “I have money. Don’t wire me any. Don’t worry. I may be frugal, but I won’t take someone like Mrs. Stone to a food truck.”
In reality, Serenity wasn’t stingy; she was just good with her money, spending only on the essentials.
Serenity and Zachary were enjoying a comfortable life together, largely because they didn’t have a child. Once a baby arrived, it would significantly impact their finances and could leave them in a tight spot.
“Achoo!” Serenity sneezed.
Hearing that during the call, Zachary felt guilty and blamed himself. “You must have caught a cold since you got out of the car without a coat. It was pouring and windy earlier.”
“I’m fine. I sneezed because you missed me.”
“Don’t forget, I’m enjoying the hot cocoa you made for me.”
Zachary grinned. “Alright. I miss you. I really miss you. I guess you don’t miss me since I didn’t sneeze.”
Serenity opened her mouth, unsure of what to say.
She had started this by claiming that his sneeze meant he missed her. Now, he was trying to turn it against her, prompting her to admit that she missed him too.
Well, he was mistaken if he thought she would say it out loud.
