He walked to the window, pulled open the curtains, and gazed at the overcast sky. The rain made it unsuitable for him to go out for his morning run. After standing there for a moment, he turned around and walked away.
Ten minutes later, he emerged from the room and headed straight for the kitchen, leaving less than a minute later. He walked to the balcony to call Jim. When Jim answered, he quietly instructed, “Go over to the hotel and pack three servings of breakfast for me.”
“Yes, sir,” Jim replied respectfully, promptly setting off as soon as Zachary hung up the phone. Fortunately, Zachary had chosen to stay at Brynfield, which was not far from both the hotel and the office. The round trip took half an hour, and Jim knocked on Zachary’s door, carrying the three breakfasts he had packed.
As he knocked, a thought suddenly struck him: ‘What if the person who answers the door is Missus? How will I explain myself then?’ He continued to think, ‘In her eyes, I’m just a professional chauffeur. I can’t very well say I’m also a part-time deliveryman now, can I?’
The door opened, and Jim sighed in relief upon seeing Zachary. There was no need for him to work part-time as a deliveryman anymore. He handed the breakfasts to Zachary.
“Don’t park the car downstairs anymore,” Zachary reminded him in a low voice.
Jim was taken aback and asked, “Does Missus suspect something?”
Zachary shot him a glance, prompting Jim to keep quiet. He resolved to follow whatever instructions Zachary gave him without question.
