“The earnings from my online shop exceed those from my bookshop.”
When you had many friends, your journey would be easier. It would be even smoother, especially with supportive friends like Elisa Stone.
Zachary was rendered speechless.
His wife’s craftwork was even showcased in the office of his competitor.
He had yet to make any significant progress with the Stone Group, while his wife had already taken the initiative against them.
Hmm, not bad! Just as expected from Zachary York’s wife! She was as assertive as he was.
If Serenity knew what he was thinking at that moment, she would surely accuse him of tooting his own horn.
Believing she was in her husband’s superior’s office, Serenity only dared to glance around a couple of times and didn’t wander.
After that, her gaze returned to Zachary, and she smiled happily as she watched him eat, occasionally asking, “Is it delicious?”
“Mrs. Lane’s cooking is quite good, but I prefer your home cooking. It’s very flavorful.”
“I think Mrs. Lane’s dishes taste better than mine, though.”
Zachary looked at her meaningfully, leaving his intent ambiguous.
Serenity’s heart inexplicably began to race.
What was happening?
In the past, when he gazed at her with those dark eyes, she didn’t blush, nor did her heart race or feel anxious.
Now, when he looked at her, her heart quickened. She wanted to flee from it but found herself unable to. It was a conflicting mindset.
“Couldn’t you get the afternoon off to rest?”
“Not today. I’ll request a day off tomorrow. The weekend is just two days away, so I’ll have a total of three days to rest.”
Serenity was puzzled. “You’re not…
“Are you requesting the day off today, but asking for tomorrow instead?”
“The work due today is crucial, so I need to ensure it’s completed correctly. As for tomorrow, there isn’t anything significant due, so if I ask for a day off to rest, no one will object.”
“Oh,” Serenity replied blankly.
“Oh, right. I saw Callum and Nana earlier, and Nana looked very upset. What happened?”
Zachary said while chewing, “She had an argument with my dad. In her anger, Nana left home and came to the office with her luggage to vent to Callum and me. Tonight, Nana is coming to stay with us.”
“Why did they argue?” Serenity asked, concerned. She recalled that her father-in-law was usually very compliant with Nana.
“I don’t know either. When I asked Nana, she refused to tell me, and when I called my dad to inquire, he wouldn’t say anything either.”
“Then let’s not pry. If Nana wants to stay with us, let her stay a bit longer. Since you’re not working tomorrow, it’s perfect timing. You can take Nana shopping to cheer her up.”
