Chapter 332
Unable to persuade Liberty to agree, Hank lost his patience and asked grimly, “Where are you working? Which company is foolish enough to hire you?”
Liberty smiled brightly and replied, “Lewis and Co. I was hired by Mr. Lewis himself.”
Hank was left speechless.
Lewis and Co. was beyond his reach. He had hoped that if she worked for a smaller company, he could leverage his connections to prevent her from working, forcing her to stay home and care for their child.
He never anticipated her capability. After being away from the workforce for over three years, she had gained weight and lost her former presence, yet she still managed to secure a position at a prestigious company like Lewis and Co. Moreover, she had been personally hired by Mr. Lewis himself.
He must have a poor judgment of character.
Hank cynically criticized Duncan in his mind.
Even he lacked the qualifications to work at Lewis and Co.
“Are you finished with what you need to say? If you are, please leave. I need to rest since I have to wake up early for work tomorrow.”
Liberty recalled Duncan mentioning that she had to complete five laps around the small garden in front of the office building each day before starting work.
Ms. Chaplin would supervise her to ensure she completed the laps.
If she didn’t sleep well, she wouldn’t have the energy for work the next day. She worried about losing her hard-earned position if she didn’t perform well on her first day.
Hank let out a heavy grunt and walked away.
He had wasted money on a pearl necklace.
As he exited, he slammed the door to the room, creating a loud bang.
The noise startled his mother, who was sleeping in the guest room.
Olivia emerged wearing a coat and saw her son storming out of the master bedroom. She quickly
Hank approached his mother with a concerned look and asked, “What’s wrong, Hank? Did you have another argument with Liberty? Or is she refusing to help your sister with the children’s transportation?”
Hank softened his expression and replied, “Mom, Liberty told me today that she found a job and will start working tomorrow. She’s letting Serenity take care of Sonny and can’t assist Chelsea with her kids’ schooling transportation.”
“Your sister is giving her money, yet she still won’t help? What do you mean she’s going to work? Echoing your sister, it’s time for you two to have a second child. Her company won’t want her once she’s pregnant anyway. Why waste time?”
Hank thought to himself, ‘There’s no way I’m having a second child with Liberty. I don’t even want to be intimate with her now, and she wouldn’t allow it anyway.’
Of course, he wouldn’t share this with his mother. Instead, he said, “She probably thinks Chelsea is offering too little. I wasn’t even aware she had found a job because she didn’t tell me. If I hadn’t brought it up, she would have likely kept it a secret.”
Hank himself had something to conceal from Liberty, but he didn’t give it much thought. However, when Liberty kept something from him, he felt angry and upset.
