Serenity reflected on her relationship with Zachary and realized that she seldom needed to coax him. Observing how easily Josh lit up when Jasmine encouraged him, she thought, “I’ll buy Zachary a gift to bring along with dinner later. That should make him happy.”
“Jasmine, what are we having for dinner tonight?” Serenity inquired.
Jasmine replied, “Liberty treated us to lunch earlier, so I didn’t get any groceries. What do you feel like eating? I’ll pick it up now.”
“You have dinner plans, and I need to deliver dinner to my husband as well. His stomach is upset, but he has a dinner party to attend. I’m worried he’ll feel worse if he drinks on an empty stomach. You two chat while I grab some food and come back.”
Jasmine and Elisa nodded in agreement.
Once Serenity left, Elisa remarked enviously, “I admire Seren. It’s rare for her and Zachary to appear like an ordinary couple. He’s so arrogant, yet she manages to bring out a softer side in him.”
“When Mr. York visited us before, he was like an ice sculpture. The students would become shy whenever he helped us at the register or watched over the store,” Elisa recalled.
Elisa chuckled. “That’s just how he is. He still acts the same way now; he simply shows a different side when he’s with Seren. One day, I want to find a man who will make exceptions for me too. I’ll hold onto his heart tightly, ensuring he never slips away.”
“You’re an amazing person, Elisa. I’m sure you’ll find someone who feels that way about you. Maybe he’s already around you, and you just haven’t realized it yet. Make sure to open the door when love comes knocking,” Jasmine encouraged.
Elisa confidently stated, “I believe I won’t be any less fortunate than Seren. I can also marry a man who truly loves me.”
Though she had moved on from Zachary, she hadn’t given up on happiness. Instead, she felt revitalized and ready to embrace new possibilities.
She sought the happiness that was uniquely hers. She was simply waiting for love to arrive at her doorstep. Serenity returned from grocery shopping and headed straight to the kitchen to prepare a meal infused with love for her beloved, hoping to send it before rush hour. She planned to return quickly to watch the store, allowing her best friend to enjoy her date without any concerns.
When her relationship with Zachary was just beginning, Jasmine often stayed alone at the store. Now that Serenity and Zachary’s feelings had solidified, it was time for Jasmine to go out with Josh.
“The quickest way to a man’s heart is through his stomach,” Elisa teased Serenity, leaning against the kitchen doorway. “Zachary’s picky palate has been won over by you.”
Serenity smiled and looked at her. “Then you’d better take notes from me so you can win over a certain man’s heart in the future.”
“I’ll pass. I’m waiting for him to win me over instead.”
“Yep, that’s the Elisa I know.”
Elisa then asked, “Seren, when you and Zachary spend time together, do you take care of him? Are you the one who buys groceries and cooks?”
“No, it’s mostly Zachary who cooks at home. Nana says he’s not a great cook, so she encouraged me to let him practice. That way, I’ll be well-fed as his skills improve.”
Elisa laughed heartily. “Old Mrs. York is definitely Zachary’s nana. She’s quite clever. She may act like a child at times, but she commands respect. Much better than my grandma. When she was alive, she constantly harassed my mom and nitpicked everything, making her life difficult.”
“Everyone in the York family is wonderful,” Serenity remarked.
Elisa nodded in agreement with Serenity’s statement.
