Wings of Broken Time by Alina Das 562
Hearing Livia openly admit to collaborating with Larissa, Lucius froze, finally turning to look at her with scrutinizing eyes.
She had voluntarily confessed and even provided a plausible excuse.
Was it possible she had been trying to help him deal with Larissa all along and hadn’t actually betrayed him?
He hoped so. The idea of being betrayed by a woman was unacceptable. How could any woman he, Lucius, had chosen possibly dare to betray him?
“Is that so?” he asked. “Then what useful information did you get from her?”
Livia feigned disappointment. “She’s very cautious and didn’t tell me much. Only that she plans to make sure ‘Soaring High‘, the new series Gale Entertainment is producing to compete with ‘Heaven’s Will‘, will be a massive disaster. The problem will stem from the male lead, so she asked me to arrange for his casting.”
“And you expect me to believe you?” Lucius demanded, his fingers gripping her chin.
Tears welled in Livia’s eyes. “Lucius, I love you so much. How could I ever lie to you?”
Her heart–wrenching expression made him hesitate, a flicker of softness stirring within him. But it was gone in an instant, replaced by his usual cold indifference.
To him, it didn’t matter whether Livia was sincere or if she was faking her alliance with Larissa. Anyone who might slip from his control was a threat. He’d rather eliminate a
thousand innocent people than let one guilty one escape.
“You’d better not be lying to me,” Lucius said, his voice low and chilling as he slowly released her chin. “The last person who betrayed me is now food for the sharks.”
In Lucius’s world, betrayal was unforgivable. Every subordinate who had ever crossed him
had been thrown into the vast ocean, becoming a meal for its predators.
His words sent a shiver down Livia’s spine. Once free, she coughed a few times, trying to steady her breathing.
Then, suppressing her fear, she looked him straight in the eye.
“May my entire family die a horrible death if I’m lying,” she said, her voice trembling but firm.
Lucius stared at her, as if trying to gauge the truth in her words.
Seizing the moment, Livia quickly added, “Whether you believe me or not, you should eat first. Come on, try what I made…”
Her tone was placating, an attempt to ease the tension.

But Lucius cut her off. “You’re my fiancée. You don’t need to do these menial tasks for me
Her future was to be a gift for powerful figures who could advance the Lincoln family’s interests. Her only job was to maintain her body perfectly
Livia hid her delight, believing her efforts were starting to work. She smiled. “Alright, I won’t disturb you then. Remember to eat, don’t go hungry.”
With that, she rose to leave.
At the door, Livia paused. Glancing around to make sure no one was there, she pressed her ear to the door, holding her breath to listen,
“I want the two people Trudy is looking for found within a week!” Lucius’s voice cut through the door. “Bring the young one to me. The old one is for Trudy to handle.
Livia frowned.
Who was Trudy? Why was Lucius helping her find people? Was that why he was so happy earlier? Because of this Trudy?
