Larissa blinked innocently. “Why are you so surprised, Aunt Josette? Didn’t Uncle Paxton and Aunt Vivica tell you about my shares?”
Seeing that Larissa wasn’t bluffing, Josette shot to her feet, furious. “This is outrageous! I’m going to find Dad and ask him what he was thinking!”
Just then, a deep, authoritative voice cut through the room.
“Josette, what is it you want to ask me?”
The familiar, intimidating voice instantly deflated Josette’s anger by half. She waited until Kiernan, leaning on Jett’s arm, had settled onto the sofa before voicing her complaint. “Dad, I heard you gave this… girl… ten percent of our pharmaceutical company and thirty percent of Starlight Media. Is that true?”
Kiernan’s expression was unreadable. “Do you have a problem with that?”
“A problem?” Josette exclaimed, jumping to her feet. “Dad, I’m your daughter, and I don’t own a single share of the family business! Yet this girl, who just arrived, gets this much? How is that fair? Have I ever done anything to disappoint you? Why is there such a huge difference in how we’re treated? Is it just because she’s your long–lost granddaughter that you favor her so much?”
Kiernan remained unmoved by her tirade.
“Josette, tell me this,” he asked coldly. “If I gave you shares, what could you do for the Judson family?”
Josette was incredulous. “What more can I do I married into the Lincoln family, and they’ve helped the Judsons quite a bit over the years, haven’t they?”
Kiernan scoffed. “Helped? By making a few token investments? We don’t need money, Josette. We need connections! Our pharmaceutical company has been stagnant for years. If the Lincolns were truly willing to help, why hasn’t Paxton been able to secure a partnership with the Schwartz family? It seems to me that since you married into that family, you’ve been too busy enjoying your own life!”
“Dad, that’s unfair!” Josette’s face was beet red with indignation. “I don’t have a say in major business deals like that, but I have been trying to get my husband to help.”
Kiernan’s expression was stern, his gaze sharp, “And that is the difference between you and Larissa. She can help this family. She can make us stronger.”
Josette’s anger flared. “Dad, you can believe this girl if you want, but I don’t! If it were so easy to partner with the Schwartz family, Paxton would have done it years ago! In fact, I came back to tell you that my husband heard Zendar Schwartz is returning to Regal City tomorrow. He can arrange a meeting between Paxton and Zendar. Whether or not a deal

She pointed a finger at Larissa, her voice dripping with contempt. “My husband is Jagger Lincoln. With him making the introduction, the chances of success are much higher than relying on this girl who just showed up and makes empty promises!”
Larissa let out a soft laugh. Zendar was indeed returning tomorrow, but it was to attend her engagement party, not to discuss business with Paxton.
