The question left Sabrina at a loss; for a long moment, she couldn’t form a reply.

Having never been a mother herself, Sabrina couldn’t truly grasp the deep hurt Eric must have felt when called such a name.

Her apology wasn’t rooted in a real understanding of the pain she was addressing–it was just a convenient attempt to keep the peace.

Seeing Sabrina speechless, Damian felt a cynical urge to laugh.

But before he could, Sabrina suddenly leaned closer.

At the same time, she deliberately let her body brush against his arm.

Feeling her calculated touch, Damian’s expression turned stony.

He immediately took a step back, putting clear space between them.

Meanwhile, Scarlett had just returned from gathering wood and caught sight of Damian and Sabrina. They were standing unusually close, almost in an embrace.

After only a brief glance in their direction, she turned her attention to finding Clara.

Just then, she heard Vanessa’s shrill voice taunting. “You’re a nobody! A fatherless nobody! Eric, you have no mom–you’re nothing!”

Looking over, Scarlett saw Vanessa standing on a large rock, pointing down at Eric and shouting those ugly words.

Scarlett immediately strode toward them, her hands tightening into fists along the way.

A quiet, cold fury rose within her.

But when she was still a few yards away, Clara suddenly burst from behind a tree.

Without a word, Clara lunged forward, tackling Vanessa off the rock and onto the grass.

Before Vanessa could even react, Clara was on top of her, delivering hard slaps and punches to her face and arms.

Vanessa, always the pampered little princess, had no idea how to fight back. Against Clara’s fierce assault, she was quickly overpowered.

The noise of the scuffle was loud enough that Sabrina–who had been focused on Damian-

finally noticed and frowned.

Sabrina hurried toward the tangle of children, raising her voice as she approached. “Clara! Stop that this instant! Do you have any idea what you’re doing? What do you think Vincent will say when he hears about this?”

Her words were clearly meant for Scarlett–an attempt to use Vincent’s authority to pressure her into stepping in.

But Scarlett didn’t move. She simply watched, her expression cold, as Clara kept hitting Vanessa.

Vanessa wailed and screamed between blows, but even then her threats spilled out. “Clara, if you don’t stop, I’ll tell my daddy! He’ll make you pay! He’ll ruin your whole family!”

Clara ignored her, throwing punch after punch without slowing.

Slowly, Vanessa’s defiant cries faded into weak, pitiful sobs.

Sabrina grew nervous. What if Clara went too far? If Vanessa was seriously hurt, how would she ever explain it to Vincent?

She moved to step in and pull Clara off.

But just then, Scarlett reached out and caught Sabrina’s arm, holding her back.

Startled, Sabrina turned to Scarlett. “Scarlett! That’s your daughter! How can you just stand there and watch her be beaten–maybe even beaten to death? Is this how a mother acts?”

Scarlett fixed Sabrina with an icy glare. When she spoke, her voice was colder still. “She was hurling hateful insults. She brought this on herself.”

Sabrina stared, stunned. “Scarlett, you…”

Seeing not a trace of concern on Scarlett’s face, she paused, then said bitterly, “Vincent was right about you. You really aren’t fit to be anyone’s mother.”

With that, Sabrina began trying to pull her arm free.

Just as she was about to break away, a broader figure stepped in front of her, blocking her path.

Looking up, she saw it was Damian.

Sabrina hesitated, but before she could speak, Damian said flatly, “Isn’t Ms. Theron right?”

He and Scarlett now stood side by side, forming a solid wall between Sabrina and the fighting children.

A chill ran through Sabrina. “You…

Damian met her gaze, his expression stern. “What? Am I wrongsh

Realizing she couldn’t intervene now, Sabrina gave up. Fler only hope was that Clara would know when to stop.

After all, Vanessa wasn’t really her child–she felt no real ache seeing her hurt.

In fact, watching Vanessa get what she deserved gave Sabrina a certain dark satisfaction.

Meanwhile, Eric–who had wandered off to cry alone after the cruel taunts–had made his way

back.

Seeing Clara pinning Vanessa down, he understood–she was standing up for him.
