However, enduring a busy period in exchange for peace of mind for the rest of her life was worth it.
“It’s been tough on you, Seren.”
Zachary kissed her forehead, feeling distressed about how much she was enduring because of him.
“I asked for this. If I learn well, it will benefit me for the rest of my life.”
Serenity yawned again.
Having woken up early, she was now feeling sleepy.
“You have to return to the office this afternoon too. Your time is far more valuable than ours.”
He was sacrificing half his day for her sister’s sake, which cost him more.
How could he be willing to make such a sacrifice if he didn’t love her deeply?
Serenity gazed at Zachary and reached out to caress his handsome face. Her eyes brimmed with emotion. “Babe, how did I manage to marry you? Don’t worry, since you’ve entrusted me with your life, I’ll never let you down. I’ll treat you well for the rest of your life.”
“My sister constantly nags me to treat you better, as if she fears I’ll mistreat you. Sometimes, I even feel jealous; it seems she treats you better than I do.”
Zachary held her hand against his face and said seriously, “My dash cam recorded everything you said. If you go back on your word and mistreat me in the future, I’ll use the recording to tell Liberty about your broken promise.”
Serenity was speechless.
If Zachary reported her to her sister, she would surely face consequences.
She quickly reassured him, “I won’t let you down. Zachary, you won’t snitch on me, right?”
“I don’t like to snitch, but if I’m wronged, I need someone to seek justice for me. I believe Liberty can fill that role.”
Serenity was left speechless.
‘Zachary, so these are your true colors!’
She
It was hard to imagine Zachary and her having a small argument, followed by Zachary going to Liberty to vent about it.
“Honey, will you allow me to endure grievances?”
“No, absolutely not. I don’t mind if others do, but not my husband. I love my Mr. York the most. Zachary, my love for you is like the Nile River—its waters flow endlessly.”
“Pfft—”
Both the driver and Jim, who was sitting in the passenger seat, couldn’t help but laugh.
The missus had a strong will to live.
Only then did Serenity realize they were in Zachary’s Rolls Royce, with the driver and Super Jim in the car with them.
Super Jim was the nickname Serenity had given him because he seemed capable of anything.
“I’m sleepy, Zachary. I think I’ll take a nap.”
Serenity simply leaned into her husband’s arms and pretended to sleep.
She felt no embarrassment; the only embarrassed one was someone else.
Zachary held her with a smile in his eyes. “Sleep. I’ll carry you upstairs when we get home and wake you up to go back to the store at three this afternoon.”
Serenity hummed in response; she really was tired.
Before long, she fell asleep in Zachary’s embrace.
Zachary was getting sleepy too.
Since they shared a bed, he couldn’t remain asleep while she was already awake.
He wrapped his arms around his wife, leaned back in the car seat, and closed his eyes.
Thinking he would take a short nap until they arrived home, he surrendered to sleep.
The sandman quickly eased them into slumber.
