Married at First Sight Chapter 854

Chapter 854
After changing his clothes, Zachary drank the bowl of ginger soup under his mother’s watchful eye. He grimaced at the soup’s excessive spiciness.
“Mom, why is there so much ginger? It’s so spicy,” he complained.
“Your Nana requested they add more ginger. If you don’t like ginger soup, then avoid doing foolish things in the future,” she replied.
Zachary set the bowl down. “I was just trying to calm down. I wasn’t trying to do anything foolish.”
“Sure, if that’s what you say. Are you calm now? Go talk to Nana. She’s the one who caused all this. You wouldn’t be in this situation if it weren’t for her.”
Tania harbored some resentment towards her mother-in-law.
Her son was an exceptional man. It wasn’t as if he couldn’t find a wife, but the old woman insisted he marry her savior.
Initially, they were all grateful to Serenity and wished to thank her, but Serenity declined their offers.
Eventually, Serenity and Grandma May developed a good relationship, and Serenity gained the old lady’s favor. Tania secretly speculated whether Serenity had rejected their generous gift because she knew about Grandma May’s identity and wanted something greater.
Her husband had said, “Let’s wait and see.”
As time passed, Serenity ultimately became their daughter-in-law.
Unbeknownst to Serenity, she was unaware of Grandma May’s true identity and did not know that Zachary was the CEO of York Corporation when she married him. Had Tania known these facts earlier, she might have viewed Serenity as a scheming individual.
Then, she discovered that the couple treated each other with coldness. They lived under the same roof but rarely spoke, even sleeping in separate rooms. Her son had also asked Serenity to sign a contract.
Tania was clueless about the contract’s contents.
However, she trusted that her son would not place himself at a disadvantage. The contract must have been beneficial.

Serenity has been more restrictive in her behavior. However, over time, the feelings between the young couple gradually blossomed. Tania confessed that she had been anticipating their divorce, as she had always believed that Serenity was not deserving of her eldest son.

She would not have minded if it were her second son; she could accept any woman he chose as long as he was happy. However, the situation was different for her eldest son, Zachary, who was the family’s successor. As the head of the family, how could he marry an orphan with a troubled family background? Regardless of how independent Serenity might be, unless she could utilize her skills to marry into a wealthy family like Audrey had, not everyone would accept her.

The pressure on Serenity would be overwhelming otherwise. In Zachary’s generation, there were nine sons, and it was unrealistic for all of them to marry women without reputable family backgrounds like Zachary had. In the future, Serenity’s sisters-in-law would come from affluent families. How could Serenity, as the eldest, prove her worth in that context?

Tania believed that Grandma May had not considered these factors for Serenity. The old woman had a fondness for Serenity, which led her to force her grandson into marriage without contemplating the challenges Serenity would face.

Zachary paused for a moment before responding, “Mom, Serenity and I are destined for each other. If we weren’t, we wouldn’t have developed feelings for one another, even if Nana wanted me to repay her.” It is said that fate can connect people regardless of the distance between them, and Zachary firmly believed in fate.

There are many individuals in this world who are simply not meant to be together, even after knowing each other for a lifetime. That is why he felt that he and Serenity were tied together by the red thread of destiny. “I don’t regret marrying…

Serenity feels disappointed in herself. She believes she has let her down. When she married me, I didn’t present her with a betrothal gift or organize a wedding ceremony. I only made up for it by giving her a wedding ring afterward. She has endured a great deal because of my actions.

If an ordinary person had signed that agreement from the start, they would likely feel deeply wronged.

However, Serenity signed it and adhered to the terms. In contrast, it was I who failed to uphold my end of the agreement. I had asked her not to fall in love with me in the contract, stating that I couldn’t return her feelings. Yet, in the end, it was I who pleaded with her to love me.
