Zachary’s eyes shimmered with pain, yet his reaction was less intense than it had been the previous day.
He spoke softly, “Seren, do you truly want to keep those little animals? If so, I can ask Brandt to guide you. You and Ms. Sox can visit our family orchard. If you think it’s suitable for raising chickens there, you can keep them. You can care for them yourself or let the workers handle it if you prefer.”
Serenity frowned. “I didn’t see an orchard at your house when you brought me over during the holidays.”
“The hills planted with fruit trees next to Wildridge Manor is the orchard. It belongs to the York family and is their ancestral manor.”
Serenity was not surprised to learn that her in-laws owned a manor.
They were wealthy.
They were engaged in various industries as long as there was profit to be made.
“Are you willing to let me leave this villa?”
Serenity focused on the key points of Zachary’s statements.
Zachary met her gaze, and as they locked eyes, Serenity finally noticed the fatigue etched on his face. His unhappiness mirrored her own when she felt upset.
“Seren, I’ve apologized countless times, but I want to reiterate my remorse. I shouldn’t have deceived you for so long. I caused you to lose your trust in me, and I won’t beg for your immediate forgiveness or act as though nothing has happened. I simply hope you can give me a chance to rebuild that trust. Please don’t bring up divorce again; it truly pains me.”
Unless a couple genuinely wishes to divorce, mentioning it in the heat of an argument can deeply hurt the other person.
Serenity paused for a moment before softening her tone. “I’m feeling overwhelmed right now, and I might regret what I do or say later… Zachary, I don’t want to talk to you at this moment. I just…

“Please let me leave this place for a moment to gather my thoughts,” she said. “I also need to consider the future of our marriage and confront the reality of our situation. You don’t need to worry about me going far after I walk out the door—where would I go? All my loved ones are right here.”

Zachary nodded sadly. “You can go back with Ms. Sox. I… I also need some time alone.”

Serenity looked at him for a moment before standing up, her tone noticeably softer than before. “Let’s both take some time to calm down. I’ll leave now,” she said quickly, as if worried Zachary might change his mind.

Zachary stood up as well, gazing deeply at her. “I’ll see you off.”

Serenity didn’t refuse his offer.

Jasmine was surprised that Zachary had come around, but she found it encouraging. She felt happy for her best friend.

Serenity walked ahead, with Zachary trailing behind and Jasmine bringing up the rear. It was clear that Zachary was extremely reluctant; it was a difficult decision for him to let Serenity go. Yet, he managed to do it.

Though Zachary’s score was in the negatives, she decided to give him a few points for that action.

At that moment, Liberty drove up with her son. She noticed the villa gate was open with a truck parked inside, seemingly filled with… chickens and ducks?

That was beside the point; what mattered was that she saw her sister coming out.

Zachary followed Serenity, his eyes reflecting reluctance, pain, and conflict.

“Seren,” Liberty called out as she got out of the car, carrying her son.

“Aunt Ser,” Sonny chimed in.

He was too young to understand what was happening among the adults. Upon spotting his aunt, he made an effort to get to the ground and trotted over to Serenity.

Serenity was equally thrilled to see her nephew. Although it had only been a day, it felt like an eternity had gone by.
During her time of confinement, she particularly missed her family and friends.
