Chapter 584
After tilting her head for a moment, Serenity helplessly wrapped her arms around Zachary’s neck, pulled his head down, and offered him her red lips.
Zachary was thrilled by the kiss initiated by his wife. He pulled the suitcase with one hand while holding Serenity’s hand with the other, and together they headed outside.
Grandma May was waiting for the young couple downstairs.
Jim was chatting with the elderly woman.
Serenity had recognized him on the day Liberty moved out when he had mentioned he would do anything for payment. Therefore, he did not feel anxious upon seeing her now.
He felt as if he could finally be himself in public.
“Mr. York and Ms. Hunt,” Jim greeted them enthusiastically.
Serenity returned his smile and asked, “What is your name, sir? I forgot to ask for your business card that day.”
Jim glanced at Zachary, noting his boss’s unchanged expression, and replied confidently, “My name is Jim.”
He then pulled a small slip of paper from his pants pocket and handed it to Serenity, saying sheepishly, “I realized at home that I ran out of business cards. I didn’t bother to print more, so I just wrote my cell phone number on this paper.”
Serenity accepted the note with Jim’s phone number and said to Zachary, “Jim mentioned he can do any job. I thought I could ask him for help with tasks I can’t handle myself in the future.”
She explained this to prevent any jealousy from Zachary.
Zachary replied quietly, “Jim is quite dependable. You can ask him for assistance with any heavy labor.”
Jim smiled nervously. “Yes, yes, yes! I can do anything as long as I’m paid. Mr. York, are you going on a business trip?”
Zachary nodded.
“In that case, I won’t disturb you any further.”
Jim bid farewell to the couple, waved at Grandma May once more, and walked away as if nothing had occurred.
Zachary typically took only half of his security detail on business trips. Jim was not selected and was tasked with staying behind to protect Serenity.
However, Jim did not regret missing the opportunity to accompany Zachary on the trip. Compared to his colleagues, he had a greater chance of establishing a rapport with Serenity.
While building a connection with Zachary was important, was it more crucial than connecting with Serenity?
Zachary’s affection for Serenity was evident, bordering on doting.
According to the rules of the York family, one could be forgiven for offending a male member, but offending their wives could lead to dire consequences.
As such, Jim’s chances for a promotion and raise depended more on forming a bond with Serenity.
The couple entered their respective vehicles, and Serenity drove away with Grandma May first.
Once her car was out of sight, Zachary’s driver and bodyguard entourage slowly approached in their vehicles.
Zachary’s MPV needed to be driven to the company and parked there to avoid raising Serenity’s suspicion.
On the way to the office, Zachary called Sam, the butler at Wildridge Manor, instructing him to send cleaners to Whitmore Mansion. He also arranged for several people to stay there temporarily to create a lively atmosphere.
In closing, he stated, “Jim’s bonus will be doubled in the future.”
Jim, sitting in the passenger seat, turned to look at Zachary, unable to hide his smile as he repeatedly said, “Thank you, Mr. Zachary.”
The driver shot Jim an envious glance.
The bonuses
The number of bodyguards surrounding Zachary was already astronomical, and with Jim’s bonus set to double, it would undoubtedly attract envious onlookers.
Sam replied respectfully, “Yes, sir. Will this begin this month?”
“Yes, it will start this month,” came the response.
Sam understood.
