Zachary asked cautiously, “Why does Ms. Stone want to know? Is she planning something against my boss’s wife?”
Serenity shot him a glare. “Don’t say that about Elisa. She’s not malicious; she’s a good person. But things just aren’t meant to be between her and your CEO.
“Elisa mentioned she would move on and stop pursuing Mr. York if he’s married or has a serious girlfriend. True to her word, she has. God knows how many times she cried upon discovering your CEO is married.
“She’d rather suffer in silence than openly pursue Mr. York. That alone makes her stand out among many. I even encouraged her to go after him. She wanted me to be her maid of honor if she married Mr. York. Who knew? What is up with Mr. York anyway? He could have announced his marriage sooner, so Elisa wouldn’t have had to wait so long to move on.
“I almost helped her sabotage someone’s marriage.”
Zachary couldn’t help but smirk slightly. It hadn’t been long since he and Serenity got married, and he had been single back then.
“Elisa wants to find out who Mr. York’s wife is not to cause trouble, but to gain closure on who she lost to.”
After a lengthy pause, Zachary replied, “I’ve told you before: only Mr. Bucham has insight into the CEO’s personal life. However, it is true that the CEO loves his wife deeply.”
“How deeply? I keep hearing that, but it would be nice to get some clarification.”
“Examples of his uxorious ways.”
Zachary opened his mouth, but no words came out.
Serenity muttered to herself, “But he protects his wife and keeps her out of the public eye. It’s clear that he treats her well. I had no idea Mr. York wielded such influence. I only grasped the extent of it after hearing the gossip about him all day.”
“It’s wise for him to want his wife to remain anonymous to prevent potential stalkers. His admirers might go to extremes and harm her.”
Zachary nodded solemnly. “Yes, the CEO chooses not to reveal his wife’s identity as a form of protection.”
While Serenity wasn’t looking, Zachary discreetly lifted his arm to wipe the cold sweat from his forehead.
