Chapter 458
Sonny did not want Hank to touch him, so he tightly clutched Liberty’s clothes. Liberty embraced Sonny, steering clear of Hank’s outstretched hands.
“Hank, if you still care for your son, please take your parents and leave now! I don’t expect you to defend Sonny, but please don’t frighten him any further. He’s already scared enough…”
Liberty’s voice trembled with emotion.
Hank looked at his son.
Mrs. Brown attempted to speak but was silenced by her husband. Noticing his gloomy expression, she decided to remain quiet.
After a lengthy pause, Hank finally said, “We’ll leave then. Liberty, please take good care of Sonny. I promise I won’t take him away again until his custody is determined.”
Even if Hank were to take Sonny, he wouldn’t be able to care for him. He wouldn’t feel at ease leaving Sonny with his parents unless they moved in with him.
However, Jessica had expressed that she did not wish to live with her in-laws in the future.
Although Hank and Liberty disagreed on the divorce terms, they could continue negotiations while Liberty filed for divorce. Hank wanted to finalize the divorce as soon as possible and did not wish to prolong the process.
Hank left with his parents.
Once outside the hospital, Mrs. Brown asked, “Hank, are you really giving up on Sonny so easily?”
“Mom, Sonny is emotionally fragile and scared right now. He was raised by Liberty and Serenity, so he’s closer to them. It’s best to leave him in their care for now; it’ll aid in his recovery.
“This doesn’t mean I’m relinquishing my claim to Sonny’s custody.”
Hank fastened his seat belt. “Mom, once I’m divorced, you and Dad should move back into your own house. Then you can help care for Sonny. I’ll provide a few thousand dollars extra each month for your living expenses.”
“Matthew has gone too far this time, and I don’t want Sonny living in Chelsea’s house,” Mr. Brown stated. “Hank, take your mother and me to your sister’s house immediately. We’ll pack our things and return to our own home. We won’t assist your sister with babysitting her children again.”
“Your mother and I have been very kind to Matthew, yet they were extremely cruel to Sonny. Don’t you feel any sympathy for Sonny as his father? As Sonny’s grandfather, I was heartbroken and furious when I witnessed him being beaten like that.”
Before Hank could respond, his sister called.
Upon answering, Chelsea shouted into the phone, “Hank, how badly was your son beaten? My son is just a child; how severe could it be? They asked your brother-in-law to teach Matthew a lesson, and he was beaten so badly that he doesn’t even look human anymore!”
“This must have been intentional. They probably took Sonny to the hospital and accused my son of abusing him. They must be held accountable for my son’s injuries. If they don’t compensate me, I won’t let them off the hook! They bullied us and wrecked my house just because they had more people!”
When Chelsea returned home and saw how distressed her eldest son was, her heart broke. She scolded her husband and immediately called her brother.
“Tell Liberty to ask her sister to come and apologize! They need to compensate me for everything they broke in my house, as well as for my son’s emotional distress. I won’t stop until I get what I want! Don’t think I’m afraid just because she has more supporters.”
Chelsea despised Liberty and Serenity.
Liberty had beaten her earlier, and her husband had hurt her son due to Serenity’s in-laws. Chelsea had suffered a significant loss and vowed to make Serenity pay the price.
