Chapter 416
“Nana won’t be any happier if it’s just her and me. She complains that I’m not much of a talker and that she prefers you,” Zachary said.
Serenity replied casually, “We can take Nana on vacation together.”
Having achieved what he wanted, Zachary agreed, “Sure.”
“There’s a resort in the western suburb. I’ll take you and Nana there tomorrow for some fresh air,” he added.
Liberty and Hank would begin their divorce proceedings the day after tomorrow, so as Liberty’s family, they needed to be there to support her.
This is why Zachary only had one day to spend with his wife.
The resort was one of the Yorks’ many properties, but it also operated as a profitable business open to the public. It attracted a high number of vacationers every year seeking a getaway.
“I heard the place is beautiful and entertaining.”
“I’ve never been there. I wonder what it’s like,” Serenity said.
She pulled out her phone to look up pictures of the resort, and after viewing them, she began to anticipate tomorrow.
Mr. York, clearly uninterested in eating alone, devoured Serenity’s packed lunch in just a few minutes.
He attempted to wash the food container, but Serenity stopped him. “I’ll handle it. You’ve been working all morning. Rest for a bit. Your boss’s office is cozy; you can lie down on his sofa. It’s better than hunching over your desk.”
Her thoughtfulness gave Zachary a warm feeling inside.
Feeling fatigued, Zachary slumped onto the sofa and quickly fell asleep while Serenity cleaned the lunchbox.
When Serenity returned, she found Zachary asleep. Moving quietly, she approached him and observed his sleeping face.
The handsome man was still charming even in slumber.
Serenity set down the lunchbox and sat beside him, watching him.
sleep.
This man was arrogant and indifferent, unwilling to waste his breath on her when they first signed away their single lives.
Over time, however, Zachary began to act kindly towards her and engage in conversation. Trust gradually developed between them.
It was said that spending time together was essential for bonding.
Serenity believed in this idea.
While she and Zachary may not have had an overly affectionate relationship, their connection was much better
than when they first began.
At least now, he would show concern for her, and she would reciprocate.
Since he was lost in dreamland, Serenity reached out to gently caress his face, mumbling under her breath, “I remember the first time I touched your face. Your reaction, as if I were a pervert, was priceless. Now I can explore as I please. Teehee.”
Her chuckle revealed a sense of smugness.
Zachary would likely challenge Serenity to move her hand lower if he were awake.
But that was only if he was conscious.
Serenity would probably retort that she had no ‘balls’ since she was a girl.
“Zachary.”
She leaned closer to his ear, whispering, “We’re getting along just fine now. How about we consider staying like this forever and avoid the divorce route?”
Unfortunately, Zachary was too deep in slumber to hear her.
Otherwise, he would have been thrilled.
If he had known her thoughts, Zachary wouldn’t have sneaked around to take the contract and eliminate the evidence.
“I’ll wait until the end of the contract term.”
Serenity felt they hadn’t spent enough time together to make a lifelong commitment.
The written contract…
It suddenly hit Serenity where she had placed the document….
To Serenity, the contract was inconsequential as it was a
From the beginning, it was a marriage of convenience. Therefore, she did not set aside the paperwork. If her memory served her right, Serenity had left it on her dressing table.
