As Claire pondered the situation, she gradually calmed down and handed the cash cheque to Charlie. “Make sure to keep it safe and remember to burn it for your dad tonight. Don’t let it get mixed up with any other cheques in the future! You never know what could happen otherwise!”

Charlie nodded eagerly and replied, “Don’t worry, dear. I’ll be more careful from now on.”

Next, Charlie quickly retrieved the cheque for one hundred and eighty thousand dollars and presented it to Elaine. “Mom, this is the real cheque. Here you go!”

He continued to flatter her, saying, “Mom! Thank goodness you caught my mistake! If I had burned the wrong cheque, we would have lost a lot of money!”

Elaine shot him a furious glare. If it weren’t for the one hundred and eighty thousand dollar cheque, she might have been less forgiving.

However, who could turn down money? She had to accept the cheque and keep the remaining one hundred and sixty thousand dollars for herself!

Charlie breathed a sigh of relief when he saw Elaine take the cheque from his hand. He had been careless and almost caused a significant blunder due to his mistake. Luckily, he managed to think on his feet just in time…

Still, his mother-in-law was a bit too sharp for her own good. If she discovered that the one hundred million dollar cash cheque was genuine, she would likely be beside herself with shock for making such a colossal error!

Just as Charlie was beginning to feel more at ease, an anxious, elderly voice called out from outside the ward. “Jacob! Jacob! My son, how are you?! Mom is here to see you!”

Charlie’s expression darkened immediately upon hearing those words.

Moments later, Lady Wilson entered the ward, using a walking stick and accompanied by Christopher, Harold, and Wendy.

Lady Wilson wore a distressed expression, her eyes bloodshot, showing signs that she had been crying.

The moment she entered, she rushed to Jacob’s bedside, tears streaming down her face. “Jacob! Jacob, when I heard you were in a car accident, I was terrified—I thought I was going to have a heart attack! How are you feeling? Are you okay?”

Though Claire felt a twinge of disgust for this group, she couldn’t bring herself to turn them away since they were there to visit her father. She stepped forward and said, “Grandma, my father is feeling much better now. Charlie invited a brilliant doctor to treat his injuries.”

Lady Wilson sighed in relief. “That’s wonderful news.”

Jacob reassured her, “Mom, don’t worry. I’m not going anywhere anytime soon.”

Truthfully, Jacob felt a mix of emotions towards his mother. Despite his dissatisfaction with her, she was still his mother, and family ties ran deep. How could he completely shut off his feelings for her?

Seeing her so worried and tearful touched Jacob’s heart.

Lady Wilson continued to cry as she chastised herself, saying, “Jacob, this is all my fault. I never showed you how much I truly cared or loved you. When I found out about your accident, I was filled with regret, fearing you might leave this world without knowing how much I love you, my dear son.”

Her tears flowed freely as she added, “I’m sorry if it seemed like I didn’t care over the years. It wasn’t that I didn’t care; I just pushed you harder because I wanted you to grow and learn quickly. I regret that you had to suffer in silence for so long. Please forgive me for being so tough on you…”

Jacob felt a tightening in his chest, unable to hold back his own tears.
