FAMILY SECRETS

CHAPTER :8

UNEDITED

[NANDI’S POV ]

There I was standing there over the bed watching mthokozisi who was busy on his laptop  working while I was packing our clothes into our suitcases. He wasn’t even looking at me and believe me it has been like that for three days after that incident,he has been avoiding eye contact with me ever since. It’s now Sunday and I am packing our clothes, preparing to go back home. The honeymoon week has come to an end, actually did it even begin? I know I never wanted this honeymoon thing to begin with because of my relationship with mthokozisi and no this is not the reason why I sound so sad it’s mthokozisi.

We came here for a week and now that week is over, it’s time to go home  but I am sad that I am leaving with a zombie because ever since that incident that happened four days ago mthokozisi hasn’t been the same. I know that I only know one side(boss side ) of him  and a little bit of his father and husband side but now after that incident the little I knew about that side of his is slowly slipping away.

Yes there are some good news. I haven’t heard those footsteps for three days now, it’s been quiet. It’s not just that thing that is quiet  even mthokozisi has been quiet and distant for the past three days, ever since he told me what happened that night.

I set on the bed and had a flashback of of that night.

When I got to the beach and pulled mthokozisi out of the sea that night, he looked so confused and shocked. He kept asking me how he got there and what was he doing there but I didn’t have any answers to his questions. I just held on to him and we walked back into our hotel room. When we got there we didn’t sleep we just talked about what happened.

I asked mthokozisi what happened and he told me he really didn’t know what happened and how it happened, he says all he was doing is following the voice that was calling out to him, he didn’t know whether it was a dream or real but it looked real . I also asked him why would he follow a random voice that’s calling out to him whether it was in a dream or real life and the answer that I got shocked me.

He said he followed it because it was his late mother’s voice, she was calling out to him and he followed the voice in hope that he will see his mother’s face again. All he hoped was that the voice would lead him to his mother and I couldn’t help myself but cry because I understand what he is going through, his mother passed away when he was ten years old and mine left me when I was eight years old with my grandma promising to come back but she never did.

” Are you done packing?” he asked and I nodded with a little smile.

“okay then I will call the driver to put our bags in the car, you will find me in the car .” he said and left, he didn’t even look at me nor into my eyes. His face is so cold, pale and dull.

The fact that all his hopes of seeing his mother again got shattered, he asked me to never speak of that incident or tell anyone what happened. This incident affected him badly he hasn’t been sleeping for the past three days, I see him getting into bed and pretend to asleep waiting for me to fall asleep so that he can get up and bury himself in lots of office work to keep his mind busy. I have been watching him for the past three days and it killed me every single time that the was nothing I can do to ease his pain.

I got up from bed, fixed my dress and walked out of the hotel room to our car. The drive to the jet was quiet, we took off and thirty minutes later after we took off the was unbearable silence, he was there just seating, working on some paperwork.

I got up , walked to the bed and threw myself on the bed. As I laid on the bed facing up, a jacket was thrown on the bed and mthokozisi threw himself next on top of the bed .

“so how was your phone call with your grandma? Sorry I forgot to ask you, I know talking to her after  for so long of not talking to her must have made you happy and relieved knowing that she is doing well. after all I saw how unhappy you were to leave her alone after marriage.  she is an elderly woman living alone with no one but you to look after her. ” he said

” you are right I was so relieved talking to her and knowing she is being taken care of like you promised so thank you for that. ” I said

” listen what I am going to ask you is going to hurt and be difficult that’s why I want your permission to go ahead. ” he said

” go on ask. “I said

” look I know you were raised by your grandmother after your mother left when you were eight years old in search of a job and never came back and your father abandoned you and your mother before you were even born. my question is now that you are grown haven’t you thought or tried to look for your parents? “he asked

” mmmmh… You’re right the question is difficult and it hurts but I am going to be honest with, when I arrived here in the city my goal wasn’t only looking for a job in order to look after my grandmother but I also hoped mabye I will find my mother. I want to see her face again and hear her voice again but mostly important I want to ask her why she left and never came back, I miss her so much. “I said and wiped my tears

” what about your father? ”

” what about him? ”

” didn’t you try to find him?i mean don’t you want to see your father, know how he looks like, get his love, affection, his name and Identity, your identity and where you come from, your roots?”

“please tell me why should I waste my energy and look for someone who abandoned me and my mother, someone who made it clear that he didn’t want us. If he wanted us he would be in our lives and mabye mom wouldn’t have left.” I said as tears fell down my face uncontrollably

” mabye the is a reason why he left. ” he said and I immediately got angry how could he say that.

” THE IS NO REASON THAT IS BIG ENOUGH FOR ONE TO LEAVE A WOMAN WHO IS PREGNANT WITH HIS CHILD AND NOT COME BACK FOR THAT CHILD……. please stop I don’t want to talk about this, it is a hard topic for me.

*BUZZ **BUZZ* MESSAGE ALERT

I wiped my tears and took mthokozisi ‘s phone which was in the charger and gave it to him.

“the is a message for you.” i said and he took the phone, he opened the message, few minutes of reading the message his eyes opened wide open.

“what is it?” I asked

“akhona sent me a message and a picture.” he said

“a picture of what?” I asked

” The message said we are called to come to our son’s school, he got into a fight but that’s not the only reason we are called to school, it is said during the fight the boy Duma was fighting with tore up his school shirt and a tattoo was found on his neck.”

“a tattoo?” I asked in shock

“now we are being called to school and social workers are also being called because we are accused of negligence, because they think we allowed a 11 year old to get a tattoo done. Akhona even sent me a picture of that tattoo. ” he said

“let me see the picture.” I said and took his open,My eyes opened wide open when I saw the tattoo .

“this tattoo looks like yours, it’s even in the same position as yours.”
