Chapter So

Hannah’s concerns weren’t baseless.

Sylvia’s “gift” came sooner than anyone had expected.

One afternoon three days later, Genevieve’s itinerary for the International Perfume Summit in Calvoria had just been finalized when someone rang the doorbell of her apartment.

Genevieve was sitting on the carpet in the living room with a dozen top–quality aromatic ingredients she had gathered from all over the world spread out in front of her. She was preparing for a special “welcome gift” for her trip to Mylin.

The doorbell interrupted her train of thought, making her frown. She rose and walked over to the door.

Through the peephole, she saw a little girl around ten years old standing outside. The girl wore an expensive white lace princess dress. Her hair was done in an elaborate half–up hairstyle, and she also had a dazzling diamond hairclip pinned on

her head.

Her face was tilted up as she kicked the ground impatiently with the tip of her toes.

Genevieve’s gaze instantly turned icy.

The little girl was Stella Lambert–Zachary’s sister and the apple of Sylvia’s eye.

Genevieve remained silent, simply watching Stella throw a tantrum outside the door.

Clearly, Stella didn’t have much patience. Seeing that no one answered the door after a long time, she started banging hard on the door, creating a commotion.

“Open the door! I know you’re in there! Genevieve, open the door!” she shouted.

Her voice was sharp, and the words she uttered were a stark contrast to her adorable appearance.

Genevieve opened the door.

The lights from the hallway poured in, illuminating her aloof face. She was in a simple white silk gown. Her hair cascaded down her shoulders, and her feet were bare. Every inch of her exuded a laid–back beauty.

She leaned against the door, looking down at the uninvited guest with an icy gaze.

“What do you want?” she asked.

Stella was stunned by Genevieve’s intimidating demeanor. Then, she immediately puffed her chest up, crossed her arms, and lifted her chin haughtily, striking the same pose Sylvia usually used.

Stella shouted in accusation, “Genevieve, my mom said you’re the reason my brother’s in jail!”

Genevieve didn’t get angry at all when she heard that. Instead, her lips curled into a smile.

“So?” she asked with a slight upward inflection.

“So, I’m ordering you to set the record straight with the police and have my brother released!” Stella demanded arrogantly.

Genevieve beamed brighter.

This little girl was actually ordering her around. The Lamberts were truly cut from the same cloth–all of them thought too highly of themselves.

“Have your brother released?” Genevieve sneered and asked, “On what grounds?”

In the Lambert family, Stella was even more spoiled than Zachary. She had never met anyone who talked back to her so straightforwardly before. Her eyes widened, and her cheeks flushed from anger.

“H–how dare you go against me?” Stella stomped her feet and shouted in a shrill voice, “Listen up! I’m not going to leave if you don’t agree today. I’m going to stay right here. I’m going to eat your food, use your things, and sleep in your bed. I’m going to make you see me every day until you get sick of it!”

Her childish, unreasonable words were incredibly despicable.

Genevieve had never expected that this would be the shameless idea Sylvia had come up with after days of thinking.

She had sent a child over, and Genevieve couldn’t raise her voice or lay a finger on her.

Once Stella decided to stay, she would stick to Genevieve like a piece of gum that she couldn’t shake. It would be enough to completely disrupt her daily routine. If Genevieve were to lash out even a little and word got out, people would call her petty for getting mad at a child.

Sylvia had sent her a jinx in the form of a child.

“Are you done?” Genevieve asked, the smile on her face fading. All that was left was an indifferent look

“I’m done! Hurry up and get inside!” Stella said cockily.

Genevieve nodded and moved to close the door as Stella watched in shock.
