Chapter 76
The following afternoon, Tristan was called away for an urgent matter concerning the board of URI Corporation.
Before he left, he leaned against the doorframe, staring at her with a darkened gaze.
All he said was, “Don’t wander off.”
As soon as he left, Genevieve grabbed her car keys and drove to Blossom Studio.
Hannah came up to greet her, exclaiming, “Gen, you’re back!”
Genevieve gave her a nod before walking to the storeroom.
An easel covered in a white cloth stood in a quiet corner of the storeroom. Next to it lay a few wooden crates that were covered in dust.
Curious, Hannah followed her in and asked, “Gen, these are…”
Genevieve didn’t answer. She walked forward and brushed her fingertip over the white cloth. Then she lifted it off with all her strength, revealing a slightly used easel, as well as a set of severely worn brushes and a few dried tubes of paint inside the
box.
All of these art supplies had once been the most important things in her life, back before she turned 18.
At the time, she was the most talented prodigy in the arts field in the city. Her painting, “The Howling Sands“, had fetched a seven–figure sum at an auction, earning her the title of the “Girl with the Divine Brush“.
Hannah looked at the art supplies. She suddenly remembered coming across a few paintings carefully wrapped in oilcloth at the very bottom of the things in the storeroom when she was tidying the place.
Genevieve said nothing at all. She just cleared a corner and carefully wiped away every inch of dust on the easel with a piece
of cloth.
Then, she set up the easel again, spread out a new canvas, and squeezed out the paints.
She didn’t start with outlines or sketches.
Her wrist felt a little stiff at the start, but soon, she regained a sense of familiarity.
Amid the dark colors on the canvas, she used the purest gold to create a glimmer of light piercing through the darkness.
She decided to name this piece “Rebirth“.
Hannah stood next to her, not daring to even make a sound.
Suddenly, the studio’s crisp doorbell rang, shattering the silence in the storeroom.
A man’s gentle voice sounded, carrying a hint of a smile. “What a coincidence. I didn’t think I would witness such a moment as soon as I arrived–the once most renowned genius painter picking up her paintbrush again.”
Genevieve stopped in her tracks and looked up.
A man in a white shirt stood against the light at the door. He was tall, with an elegant air about him and a warm smile on his
face.
It was Greg.
“What brings you here?” Genevieve asked.
She set her paintbrush down, and the tense expression on her face eased a little.
Greg lifted the exquisite wooden case in his hand a little and walked in slowly. His gaze first landed on Genevieve before he

turned to the painting that was just taking shape.
“If I hadn’t come, I would’ve missed a good performance, wouldn’t I?” said Greg.
He opened the wooden case, revealing a complete set of top–quality vintage oil paints.

“I happened to come across the painting you gave me at home. I came back in a rush, so I didn’t prepare any gifts for you. But
I thought nothing would capture your heart more than master–grade paints,” Greg explained.
It was clear that he understood her paintings well, and he knew her even better.
The feeling of being understood made Genevieve lower her guard a little.
“Thank you,” she said, not turning his gift down.
Greg walked up to the easel, carefully observing the painting.
“Bold choice of colors. The force of the brushstrokes is even better than before,” he praised. “But this part…”
He extended his slender finger, pointing at the border where the speck of gold met the dark blue.
“To blend the colors here, if you add some cool white here and create some texture with a palette knife, wouldn’t it bring out the sense of being broken and torn even more?”
His fingertip was almost touching the wet paint on the canvas. He leaned in to get a better look, moving closer to Genevieve. The distance between them closed instantly.
His refreshing scent filled Genevieve’s nose. His fingertip was now just an inch away from the back of her hand.
The atmosphere grew a little flirtatious in that moment.
Genevieve instinctively wanted to take a step back to put some distance between them. However, just then, the sound of footsteps rang out.
