Chapter 73

“I’ve sealed off the toxins for now. It’ll take at least seven days for it to clear out of your system completely,” said Genevieve as she stood up.

“Mr. Hale!”

Right then, an elite fighter in a black combat suit rushed in. It was one of Tristan’s subordinates.

He glanced around and said to Tristan respectfully, “It’s all taken care of, Mr. Hale. Zachary and the Sloane family, as well as all the evidence, have been handed over to the police. The car is ready. Let’s head back to the Hale residence and let Dr. Zeller take care of your wounds.”

Heron quickly echoed, “Yes, he’s right. Mr. Hale, your injuries are more important. Hurry up and go to a hospital!”

Tristan, however, didn’t seem to hear them at all.

He looked up, his gaze landing on Genevieve. “Can the toxins be cleared if I go to the hospital?” he asked slowly.

“This type of poison was made using an ancient formula. The hospital might not be able to cure you,” Genevieve answered.

“So it looks like only you can save my life.” Tristan’s gaze grew deeper as he spoke.

Genevieve’s heart skipped a beat, and a sense of foreboding crept up on her.

“I can write you a prescription and let your subordinate get the medication for you,” she replied, trying to draw a line. between them.

Tristan, however, sneered and got up slowly. “The treatment takes seven days, and my condition can deteriorate at any point during that time. Genevieve, do you think just a prescription would be enough?”

He took a step forward, and Genevieve instinctively took a step back. He stepped forward again, only stopping when her back hit the long table with the plaques on it.

Feeling a little troubled, Genevieve asked, “What do you want then?”

Tristan lowered his gaze and watched as she was backed into a corner. His gaze darkened,

Lifting his uninjured hand, he gently brushed a speck of dust off her face. The heat from his fingertip made her heart skip a

beat.

“Whether my condition improves or not depends on you. I need a personal caretaker to watch over me around the clock. I need someone who knows the characteristics of this poison the best to monitor any changes at all times,” said Tristan.

“Tristan!” Genevieve gritted her teeth and said, “Don’t push it!”

“I saved you and the Yates family,” he said, reminding her calmly. “Now, I’m poisoned, and my life is in danger because of you guys.”

He paused and watched her expression change. Then he added leisurely, “Is it too much for me to ask you to take responsibility?”

Genevieve was speechless.

Was it too much? No, it wasn’t.

Was it reasonable? It was too damn reasonable.

But she just couldn’t shake the feeling that what he wanted wasn’t as simple as being nursed back to health.

It was at this moment that Heron finally caught on.

He cleared his throat and immediately sold Genevieve out, even though they were on the same side.

“Mr. Hale is right!” he said. Looking pained, he pounded his chest and said, “It’s because of the Yates family that you’re hurt. We have to repay your kindness, no matter what. So Genevieve, just-”

“Mr. Yates!”

Genevieve shot a glance at Heron, making him swallow the rest of his words.

Tristan was very happy with Heron jumping in to help him.

He pulled his hand back and looked at Genevieve calmly before saying, “Should we go to your place or mine?”

This wasn’t a choice at all.

If she were to go to his place, she would be walking right into the lion’s den.

But if they were to go to her place…

Genevieve took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and finally accepted her fate.

“Mine,” she said.

No matter what, it was a fact that he had saved her. And she had never liked owing someone a favor.

Tristan couldn’t hide his smile any longer.

“Alright,” he replied.
