Chapter 63

The glass shattered with a sharp sound.

Zachary couldn’t give up that easily..

He dialed a number and said, “Find the best private investigator to keep an eye on Genevieve Whitfield! Report everything she does to me, from where she goes to the people she meets. Take pictures of everything! The moment I catch her slipping, I’ll destroy her and get back everything that belongs to me!”

He had lost his mind.

The next day, an inconspicuous black sedan followed Genevieve’s car.

In the black sedan, a private investigator held his camera up, clicking the shutter incessantly.

As he took pictures, he muttered under his breath, “She’s quite the looker. No wonder Zachary is so obsessed with her.”

As Genevieve drove, she glanced at the car following her through the rearview mirror. It seemed Zachary was pulling some

tricks of his own.

She abruptly turned into a cramped alley, and the black sedan followed behind her.

The moment the private investigator drove into the alley, two black Bentleys silently blocked the entry and exit, sealing off all his routes of escape.

The private investigator’s expression fell. Before he could react, someone knocked on his car window.

Dressed in a suit, Liam stood outside the window. With a professional smile on his face, he said, “Sir, please hand over everything inside the car.”

The doorbell of Genevieve’s apartment rang.

She went over to open the door and raised an eyebrow when she saw Tristan standing outside.

“Why are you here?” Her tone was unkind as she blocked the doorway. She had no intention of letting him in.

Tristan didn’t seem to mind. He held up a sealed bag of evidence, which contained a phone.

“Let’s see if you got tricked by a dumbass.” He walked past her and entered the house.

Turning around, Genevieve stared at him. “What do you mean by that?”

Tristan placed the bag of evidence on the coffee table. Then, he lounged on the sofa, crossed his legs, and looked at her.

In a light tone, he said, “Zachary hired someone to follow you and get some evidence. I’ve already handled it for you, and the culprit has been handed over to the police.”

Genevieve’s frown remained on her face.

She had been curious why the person tailing her hadn’t caught up to her. She even thought Zachary had a bad eye for hiring lackeys.

It turned out that Tristan was behind it.

She pursed her lips as she tamped down the peculiar feeling rising in her heart. “Who told you to be so nosy?”

Tristan paused, looking up at her with a dark look in his eyes.

“What?”

Genevieve met his gaze, not flinching in the slightest. “This is between me and Zachary. I can handle trash like him. I don’t need your help.”

She didn’t need Tristan’s protection, and she didn’t want to owe him any favors either. It was messy enough between the two

of them.

Tristan smiled in annoyance.

He slowly stood up and walked over to her.

Genevieve took a few steps back in response–until her back hit the cool wall. She had nowhere else to go.

Why did she always get the short end of the stick when she was with him?

Tristan propped his arms on either side of her, caging her in. He leaned closer, his breath fanning across her skin, making goosebumps rise along it.

He said darkly, “I helped you handle a problem, yet you’re berating me. Genevieve, do you even have a conscience?”

Genevieve looked away, yet she couldn’t control the flush that appeared on her ears. “I don’t need a conscience when it comes to you.”

“Is that so?” Tristan twirled a strand of her hair around his fingers. “Since that’s the case, what should we talk about?”

“We c–can talk about—”

Her words were swallowed by a searing kiss.
