The dark night sky seemed to engulf the entire city.
Genevieve only had one floor lamp on, the warm amber light casting a long shadow of her figure in the dark.
Her gaze slowly shifted toward the elegant emerald bracelet on her wrist. It was the last thing Raymond had given her before he passed away.
The emerald bracelet was cool to the touch and intricately designed. Under the lights, its green hue seemed especially dark, and a sliver of light glinted through the gems.
But that wasn’t the main point. There was an intricately carved totem on the bracelet. Genevieve ran her finger over the cool engraving.
Her talented yet mysterious mother had a similar bracelet. It was one of her mother’s heirlooms and her prized possession. However, after her mother passed away, that emerald bracelet disappeared without a trace.
Before Raymond died, he mentioned that it wasn’t a coincidence that he had saved her mother.
What secrets did the two emerald bracelets hold?
Genevieve drew in a deep breath before putting the bracelet under the high–precision scanner. All the details of the totems were uploaded to her laptop.
Her hands flew over the keyboard as she logged into a top global image database and uploaded the scanned image. Then, she tried to search for a match via fuzzy string matching. Millions of images flickered across her screen.
After a few minutes, a soft ping sounded, and the results of her search popped up.
It read, “The emblem of the Yates family, an ancient family with a medical lineage.”
There was barely any information about them. The results only mentioned a brief description.
The mysterious Yates family had been around for more than a thousand years but had long since disappeared. They were extremely skilled in the traditional preparation of medicine and poisons and were well–versed in both fields.
Genevieve’s eyes widened. The Yates family?
Her mother’s surname was indeed “Yates“.
Genevieve felt her blood run cold.
Was her mother really related to this Yates family?
Without a hint of hesitation, Genevieve immediately opened an encrypted program. Then, she sent all the information she had and her questions to Kay.
She also texted, “Investigate the Yates and the Lambert families and their relationship with my mother, Zoe Yates.”
At the same time, another set of databases was being processed.
In the dark of the night, a man with disheveled hair sat in an office on the top floor of a cybersecurity company.
He was Kay, a man akin to a god in the IT world. He was one of the few people Genevieve trusted.
“An ancient family with a long medical lineage… The Yates…” Kay muttered under his breath as he lightly tapped on another screen. Soon, he found all of Lambert Group’s classified files from the past decade.
“Interesting.”

Raymond was in charge of the trade. However, the other party’s name was unknown. They only left behind a mark endorsing the trade–the Yates family’s seal.
Kay smirked faintly as he organized the classified information and sent the file to Genevieve.
Kay texted, “Mr. Lambert Senior sure wasn’t a saint when he was young.”
Meanwhile, Zachary hit rock bottom.
He hated Tristan for taking over his matters and detested Genevieve even more for her cruel betrayal.
He muttered under his breath, “All that bitch knows is how to sleep with men! She doesn’t deserve to be where she is now!”
In the dark room, Zachary’s expression was wild as he hurled the wine glass in his hand at the wall.
