Chapter 43

“Genevieve!” Zachary ran into the room and jabbed a finger at Genevieve as he shouted, “It’s all your fault! You had this planned all along!

“You already have a fling with that bastard Tristan! You two are going after our family fortune! That’s why you laid out this plan to force me to divorce you and force Grandpa to give in!”

His voice rang out loudly amidst the quiet corridor.

Genevieve turned around slowly and looked at him as if he were nothing more than a clown.

At that very moment, Tristan’s voice rang out from the other end of the corridor.

“Mr. Lambert.”

He leaned against the wall with his hands stuck in his pockets, looking extremely at ease.

“Instead of making baseless guesses here, maybe you should go back and deal with your own problems and debts.”

“Tristan, you’re nothing but an illegitimate bastard!”

All of Zachary’s humiliation and frustration had finally found an outlet.

He swung his fist directly toward Tristan’s face. However, his fist was stopped by an even stronger grip in midair.

Tristan clutched Zachary’s fist tightly. “A mad dog will bite whoever it sees.”

He smirked. “You know, I don’t mind ripping out all of its teeth.”

Just as Zachary was about to swing with his other fist, a slim figure swiftly stood in between them.

“Enough.”

Genevieve didn’t even look at them. She simply reached out a hand and grabbed their arms in one clean motion.

Zachary and Tristan felt a numbing current run through their arms, forcing them to let go of one another.

They both jolted and stared at Genevieve in shock.

They had no idea that she could do that.

She calmly said, “If you want to fight, go outside. If you fight here, you’ll just ruin Grandpa’s mood.”

Her words made both men fall silent.

Zachary’s rage was instantly put out by the sudden intervention, but his chest was heavy with unspoken complaints.

Why? Why did he have to be humiliated by the likes of Genevieve and Tristan?

“Zachary! Zachary!”

Suddenly, a sharp, panicked female voice yelled out from the staircase.

Sylvia hurried in and rushed toward Zachary.

“We’re in trouble! Zachary, you have to help your uncle!” Sylvia grabbed his arm and said in a trembling voice, “The foreign company we’re collaborating with suddenly ganged up against us and said we went against our contract. They want us to pay a crazy amount for breaching our contract! The Jenkins family is done for!”

Zachary had already been forced to hold back his anger, so he was even more frustrated by Sylvia’s sudden outburst. “Mom, I don’t have the time to care about all that!”

“Why not?” Sylvia said. She turned toward Genevieve, and her gaze went from panicked to commanding.

She said, “Genevieve, I know who you are. You’re that internationally renowned perfumer, right?”

Before Genevieve could reply, she continued, “You have to help the Jenkins family. You know the boss of that company, don’t you? Talk to them and ask them to keep working with us. If you speak up for us, we’ll be saved!”

She bossed Genevieve around as if the latter were still her daughter–in–law. She seemed to have forgotten exactly what was going on.

Genevieve turned around slowly and looked directly at Sylvia. Slowly, she said, “The Jenkins family isn’t worth my time.”

Sylvia couldn’t believe what she had just heard. “What did you just say? Genevieve, don’t make me do this the hard way. You’re Zachary’s wife, which makes you my daughter–in–law! You have to help us!”

“Is that so?” Genevieve raised an eyebrow. “Zachary, see you at the courthouse the day after tomorrow at 9:00 am. Bring your documents. Don’t be late.”
