Chapter 36
The room exploded into uproar.
“Oh my God. Is Mrs. Lambert that powerful?”
“The Lambert family is really about to take over now.”
“Didn’t everyone say that she was useless? How did she suddenly turn into a legend in perfumery?”
Genevieve met Zachary’s gaze without a flicker of expression.
It seemed that Zachary had finally used his brain. He had announced the firm’s partnership with Modernis.m in front of everyone and invited half the business world to that night’s gala. If she turned him down, it would make her look petty and disrespectful to Modernis.m.
He was using the weight of the entire upper circle to force her hand.
However, it was unfortunate for him as his plan was going to fail.
Genevieve was genuinely curious about how he intended to clean up the mess when it did.
Zachary stepped down from the stage and walked toward Genevieve as everyone watched in admiration.
Even if she was a top perfumer, he could push her until she had no choice but to give in.
He leaned closer and whispered, “Gen, do you still think my offer isn’t attractive? Be honest. Without my and the Lambert family’s backing, Cen is nothing but a name. How would you ever stand on an international stage like this?”
He enjoyed watching her squirm under everyone’s gaze, convinced he had everything under his control.
“Just say yes,” he murmured. “We’ll be the perfect partners-the couple everyone envies.”
As he spoke, he reached out again, ready to take her hand and complete the final act of his performance.
When faced with this kind of pressure, he was confident that Genevieve had no choice but to compromise.
Genevieve quietly met his gaze. Her eyes were calm and steady, with none of the panic he had expected.
Her hand tightened slightly at her side. She didn’t mind letting Zachary taste public humiliation again that night.
Right before his hand could touch hers, someone stepped out from behind them.
The man wore an impeccably tailored black suit with no tie, the collar casually undone to reveal a hint of warm skin and the
clean line of his collarbone.
He was devastatingly handsome-the dangerous kind. A faint smile curved his lips, subtle yet enough to steal one’s breath.
Tristan stepped between them.
Zachary’s eyes widened as he wondered why Tristan was there. A sense of dread crept up his spine.
Tristan acted as if he hadn’t noticed Zachary’s stiff expression at all. He held a glass of rich burgundy and strode forward, as if merely passing through the narrow space between them.
Then, as he brushed past Zachary, his wrist tipped, just slightly.
A second later, the entire glass of dark red wine was poured straight onto Zachary’s white suit.
From his chest down to his abdomen, the fabric bloomed with deep crimson stains in an instant. The sticky liquid dripped off the hem, splattering onto the polished floor.
Zachary froze. He stared down at the ruin across his shirt front, his mind going blank.

Then, a wave of humiliation crashed over him, and rage surged up so fast that he almost saw red.
Tristan stopped, turned around, and finally looked at Zachary. “I’m so sorry, Mr. Lambert. The lights are too dazzling, and my hand slipped. You won’t hold it against me, will you?”
“You…” Zachary was on the verge of losing control, but the last shred of restraint stopped him from saying anything further.
Tristan raised an eyebrow, a flicker of amusement in his eyes, as though he hadn’t even noticed Zachary’s fury. “What, you’re going to throw a tantrum over something this trivial?”
Around them, the guests barely dared to breathe.
If Zachary let his anger show, he would only look petty, disgracing himself in public.
