Chapter 33

Zachary lost himself for a second and murmured, “Gen…”

All the heat seemed to drain from Regina at once. She went completely still.

She slowly pushed him away. The softness in her eyes vanished without a trace, leaving only shock behind. “What did you just call me?”

Zachary’s mind snapped back into focus. He stared at Regina’s stunned face, panic flashing in his eyes.

Damn it! How did Genevieve’s name come out of his mouth?

“Regina, I…” He immediately switched to a wounded, apologetic look and reached for her. “Babe, I’m sorry. I wasn’t thinking straight. I’m sorry. This is my fault.”

Regina avoided his hand. “So, you fell for her, didn’t you? Zach, what am I to you? Her substitute?”

“Of course not!” Zachary hurried to soothe her. “You know I love you.”

As he spoke, he helped straighten her rumpled dress, but his tone turned serious in the next breath.

“Regina, listen. Stop provoking Genevieve online. She’s been like a ticking time bomb lately, going after anyone in her way.”

He should have kept his mouth anger detonated.

“I’m provoking her?” Regina’s voice

one using her identity as Cen to P. Tears spilled down her cheeks, making her look painfully wronged ‘She’s the

one using her identity as Cen to humiliate and bully me! Zach, did you forget?”

The more she spoke, the more wounded she sounded. “If she hadn’t forced her way in a year ago and used Raymond to pressure you into marrying her, the woman standing by your side would’ve been me!

“She took everything from me! She took my place as your wife. And now, she wants to take the man I love the most, too…”

At the end, it was as though she had realized that she had said too much. She covered her mouth, shaking her head through her tears. “I’m sorry, Zach. I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said that. You’re still her husband, after all…”

That mix of grievance and fragile restraint hit Zachary right in his softest spot.

She looked wronged, yet she was still trying to hold herself together. It hit Zachary’s softest spot.

Guilt washed over him. Regina was the innocent one, and he owed her far too much.

“Don’t be silly. Why are you apologizing?” Zachary wrapped his arms around her, patting her back in a soothing gesture. This is my fault. I hurt you. But I swear I’ll make it up to you.”

He lowered his head, kissed away her tears, and said softly, “Regina, do you want to get into Blossom Studio?”

Regina stopped crying and looked up. Tears clung to her lashes, and a bright glimmer flashed in her eyes.

Blossom Studio was the place every perfumer dreamed of. Of course she wanted it.

Still, she made herself look hesitant. “Could I? Compared to Cen, I’m nowhere near good enough-”

“Don’t say that!” Zachary cut in immediately. “Her style is outdated! Your talent and instinct are unmatched! You’re the best in the country! If I give the word, do you think she’d dare say no?”

He pinched Regina’s cheek. “Genevieve still has to rely on the Lambert family right now. Getting one person into Blossom Studio is nothing. If she dares give you trouble, I’ll make sure she can’t even keep that studio open!”

“Thank you, babe!” A flicker of calculation flashed through Regina’s eyes, gone as quickly as it appeared, replaced by thick admiration and devotion.
