You Chose Her, so I Married Better Chapter 23

Chapter 23

Genevieve didn’t go to a pharmacy. Instead, she drove through downtown with practiced ease, weaving through turns until she plunged into the old district where the streets were narrow and packed.

The gray sedan trailed behind clumsily, clearly unfamiliar with the area.

Genevieve cut the wheel and turned onto a street known for seafood wholesale.

The pavement was always slick and muddy, and the air was thick with a heavy stench of fish.

She had timed it perfectly. Just as the car tailing her caught up, she slammed the brakes and stopped beside a large stall.

The sedan behind her reacted too late. Tires screamed in a sharp, ugly skid.

Right then, a kid came out of nowhere and, as if startled, “accidentally” knocked over a huge plastic barrel packed with fish guts and murky water beside the stall.

The entire bucket of filth spilled out, splashing straight across the gray sedan’s hood and windshield.

“Who the hell wasn’t watching where they were going? Those are my goods!” the vendor bellowed at the top of his lungs.

A burly man jumped out of the sedan and snapped, “You got a death wish?”

The onlookers instantly surged, crowding him in from every side.

Amid the chaos, Genevieve restarted the engine without a flicker of emotion and merged back into traffic.

At the next intersection, she pulled over, took out her phone, and slowly typed a message before sending it to Zachary.

“Keep your people in line. Next time, it won’t just be a dirty car.”

In the study at Skyline Villa, the air seemed to freeze. Then, an expensive antique cup was hurled to the floor, shattering on

impact.

Zachary’s expression turned stormy as he stared at the message, seething at the blunt provocation.

“Genevieve! How dare she!” Zachary forced the words out through his teeth, his chest heaving, fury raging in his eyes.

Since when had the woman who always bowed her head to him become so bold-and so capable?

“Zach, what’s wrong? Don’t be mad,” Regina said softly. She was barefoot in his white shirt as she wrapped her arms around

his waist from behind.

Her warmth against him didn’t calm him. Instead, it only made him more irritable.

He shoved her off, tossed the phone onto the desk, and said coldly, “The man I sent got played!”

Regina’s gaze dropped to the screen, her pupils constricting sharply.

She masked it in an instant, then her voice took on a concerned tone. “Did Genevieve misunderstand something? How could she treat you like this?”

Zachary didn’t answer. He only lit a cigarette, his irritation written into every movement.

A vicious glint flashed through Regina’s eyes.

She stepped closer and gently took Zachary’s hand. “Zach, did Raymond say something to you?”

Zachary shot her a look. The thought of that 30% stake made the anger in his chest flare hotter.

He let out a cold snort. “The old man wants to leave his shares in Lambert Group to my first child.”

Regina’s heart skipped a beat.

That was 30% of the shares! What did that mean?

It meant that once Genevieve had a child, she would be firmly anchored to the Lambert family.

If that happened, Zachary would never divorce Genevieve, and everything Regina had planned would be ruined.

She couldn’t let this happen.

Her nails dug into her palm until they nearly broke the skin. Yet, her face instantly turned pitiful, as if she might burst into tears at any second. “Then, does that mean you have to have a child with Genevieve?”

Seeing how pitiful she looked, Zachary softened slightly. But the moment Genevieve crossed his mind, irritation surged again. “Have a child with her? She doesn’t deserve it.”
