As they stepped out of the car, Jacob waved at Charlie, saying, “Come on! I’m going to show you how to find a great deal!”

With that, they began strolling down Antique Street.

Charlie had to quicken his pace to keep up with Jacob, but he couldn’t help glancing around as they walked.

Since it was the weekend, Antique Street was bustling with more people than usual.

The street was crowded, lined with numerous vendors who had set up their stalls for the weekend, creating a lively atmosphere.

Many vendors simply laid out plastic sheets on the ground, inviting passersby to explore the assorted antiques and jades displayed for sale.

As Charlie casually surveyed the scene, he quickly realized that authentic items were scarce. In fact, most vendors seemed to be trying to deceive unsuspecting tourists and locals alike.

Many of the tourists, blissfully unaware of the true value of what they were buying, often left with imitations, proudly believing they had struck a fantastic deal.

“Over here!”

Jacob suddenly halted in front of a modest stall, his face alight with excitement and anticipation.

A few tourists were gathered around the stall, examining the various antiques. Jacob eagerly joined the small crowd, fearing he might miss out on a good find.

Charlie took a closer look at the stall. It consisted of an oiled sheet spread across the ground, adorned with several dozen mud-stained antiques. Among them were blue and white horses, copper coins, wine cups, jade bracelets, and time-worn calligraphy paintings.

Despite the array of items, Charlie could easily tell they were all fakes just by glancing at them.

The stall’s owner was a thin, dark-skinned man dressed in a simple dark blue t-shirt. His hair looked greasy and unkempt, yet he had a straightforward and earnest demeanor.

“Look at this!” Jacob exclaimed to Charlie, pointing at a colorful bottle with a large opening. In a hushed tone, he added, “This is the perfect wine bottle to complement my celadon cups! If I get this today, I can sell the complete set for double the price!”

Charlie examined the wine bottle, then turned to the stall owner and asked, “How much for this?”

The stall owner glanced at the bottle before responding, “Well, my father said I can’t sell it for less than twenty thousand dollars!”

Jacob nearly burst out laughing at the outrageous price. He quickly urged Charlie, “The owner clearly doesn’t know what he’s selling! Let’s grab it before someone else does.”

Just then, Charlie stopped Jacob, smiling as he said, “Dad, there’s no way this is worth twenty thousand dollars. We’re not buying it.”

“What?” Jacob was taken aback. “Then what do you think it’s worth?”

Charlie extended his hand and gestured in front of the stall owner. “This amount.”

“Five thousand dollars?” the owner asked, staring at Charlie in disbelief.

Charlie shook his head. “No. At most, fifty dollars.”

The stall owner looked at Charlie as if he were from another planet before shouting, “Do you even know the value of antiques? This is a treasure from my grandfather! You can’t find anything like it today. Are you trying to take advantage of me just because you’re from the city?”

Jacob, feeling anxious, stepped in to stop Charlie from confronting the owner. “Charlie, don’t say anything more. You’re messing with his business.”

Charlie smiled and raised the wine bottle, turning it around. He then wiped away the yellow mud from the bottom and pointed to the small writing there. “Dad, look at this.”

The writing was tiny, and most people would have missed it if Charlie hadn’t pointed it out. It read: “Made in China.”

Jacob stood frozen for a moment, utterly speechless.

After regaining his composure, his face flushed with anger as he pointed at the stall owner, shouting, “You… you fraud!”

Charlie waved the wine bottle in front of the owner, saying, “The manufacturer wouldn’t allow the sale of fake antiques like this, which is why they printed that in fine print. Clever of you to cover it with mud. How about we buy it for thirty dollars now?”

“This…”

The stall owner was momentarily stunned, and the smile had vanished from his face completely.

The next day had arrived, and it was already the weekend.
