Claire and Loreen welcomed everyone with warm smiles. Meanwhile, Clinton clenched his teeth in frustration as he watched Claire, who seemed to grow even more radiant and beautiful over the years.<\/p>\n

Back in college, he had earnestly tried to win her affection, but she had brushed him off completely.<\/p>\n

To his dismay, she ended up marrying a lazy bum who lived off her hard work.<\/p>\n

Why on earth did that happen?!<\/p>\n

It felt as if fate had turned a blind eye!<\/p>\n

With a scowl, he narrowed his eyes and sneered, \u201cHey Charlie, it looks like you\u2019re living the good life after marrying Claire! Driving a BMW now, huh? Did Claire buy it for you? You\u2019re the perfect example of a trophy husband!\u201d<\/p>\n

Claire was visibly irritated by his jibe, while Loreen quickly interjected, \u201cClinton, you\u2019ve got it all wrong. It\u2019s not Claire who bought the car; Charlie got it himself!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWow!\u201d Clinton retorted, smirking. \u201cImpressive! You can actually afford a BMW 5 Series now!\u201d<\/p>\n

Then, with a challenging tone, he added, \u201cSince the streets are so quiet and straight, how about we race to see who\u2019s got the faster ride?\u201d<\/p>\n

Charlie frowned, feeling annoyed at Clinton\u2019s obvious provocation.<\/p>\n

\u2018Why can\u2019t you just leave me alone? I want nothing to do with you,\u2019 Charlie thought to himself. \u2018Besides, my car is way faster than yours! This is a BMW 760, the top model! If I accept your challenge, I\u2019ll just look like a bully.\u2019<\/p>\n

Clinton misinterpreted Charlie\u2019s silence as fear and smirked. \u201cCome on, Charlie, still a coward like in college? It won\u2019t use much gas! I\u2019ll even cover your fuel costs later.\u201d<\/p>\n

Loreen was fed up and exclaimed, \u201cClinton, give it a rest! Your car is a 540, and Charlie\u2019s is a 520. Even I can see there\u2019s a massive difference in engine power! Do you really think your street race idea is fair?\u201d<\/p>\n

Clinton shrugged nonchalantly. \u201cWell, it really depends on the driver\u2019s skills! A good car doesn\u2019t guarantee speed; it\u2019s all about the driver\u2019s abilities and bravery. I wonder if Charlie has the guts to take on the challenge. But I wouldn\u2019t be surprised if he backs out; he\u2019s always been the underdog.\u201d<\/p>\n

His friends quickly chimed in, \u201cYeah, Clinton\u2019s right! Just admit it if you\u2019re scared; there\u2019s no shame in that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Charlie, however, remained unfazed. With a smile, he replied, \u201cI\u2019m up for a race, but what\u2019s the fun in just talking about the bet? Let\u2019s think of a more interesting punishment for the loser.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAlright!\u201d Clinton felt a wave of relief wash over him, worried that Charlie might not take the bait. When Charlie suggested a punishment, he excitedly jumped in, thinking Charlie was digging his own grave. \u201cLet\u2019s bet that the loser has to kneel and apologize to the winner. What do you say?\u201d<\/p>\n

Charlie shook his head. \u201cNope, that\u2019s too childish. We\u2019re adults, so let\u2019s come up with something more mature.\u201d<\/p>\n

Just then, Douglas emerged from the restaurant, dressed sharply in a suit and carrying a large stack of fireworks. Spotting Charlie, he walked over with enthusiasm. \u201cHey Charlie! Great to see you!\u201d<\/p>\n

Charlie greeted him with a warm smile, saying, \u201cDouglas, congratulations on the opening of your new restaurant!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThanks, buddy!\u201d Douglas replied cheerfully.<\/p>\n

Clinton, not ready to drop the subject, interrupted coldly, \u201cCharlie, don\u2019t change the topic. What are you really thinking?\u201d<\/p>\n

Curious, Douglas asked, \u201cWhat\u2019s happening here? What are you guys up to?\u201d<\/p>\n

Charlie glanced at the fireworks Douglas was holding and inquired, \u201cDoug, how long are those firecrackers?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThree meters!\u201d Douglas chuckled. \u201cThey weren\u2019t cheap; I spent over six hundred dollars on them!\u201d<\/p>\n

Charlie nodded thoughtfully before turning to Clinton and suggesting, \u201cI\u2019ve got an idea. Let\u2019s go ahead with the race, and whoever loses will have to put the fireworks in their car and light them up. What do you think?\u201d<\/p>\n
