I don’t remember ever allowing you to quit!” Harley’s expression grew increasingly panicked.

He immediately began searching for the resignation records. I watched him with quiet composure. I wasn’t surprised at all- just amused. 2

What could he possibly remember?

Aside from worrying whether Megan had a place to stay, whether she was eating well, whether she was getting enough rest… he never remembered anything else.

He didn’t remember that I had resigned. He didn’t remember the pain of abandonment he caused me. And he certainly didn’t remember how hard I worked-how much I sacrificed-for every project.

Harley wasn’t panicking because I left. He was panicking because now there was no one to clean up his messes.

In his world, once this crisis passed, he’d simply return to normal. He’d continue flirting with Megan, continue helping her steal my projects, and continue turning a blind eye while everyone else mocked and mistreated me.

Finally, Harley found the record. When he saw my name listed as the applicant, his eyes widened in disbelief, and he stumbled two steps back.

He cursed under his breath. “Who allowed you to hand in your resignation? Don’t they know what kind of relationship we have?”

He flew into a rage and called the company. The call connected quickly, and before the person could say anything, Harley exploded on them.

“Did you even confirm with me before letting Tiana Lancaster resign? Who gave you the authority to make that decision?”

“But Mr. Sinclair, didn’t you say—”

“What did I say? Did I say to fire her? She’s my wife. Don’t you know that?

“What the hell are you doing? Have you forgotten who your boss is?

“Get out of my company. Don’t ever let me see your face again!”

After cursing the person out, Harley turned back to me. His tone suddenly shifted into something almost pleading. “Tiana, I really didn’t expect him to treat you that way. Please… come back, okay?”

It sounded like he was standing up for me. But if not for the approval-implicit or explicit-of him and Megan, would anyone else have dared treat me that way?

It was those colleagues who bullied me, yes, but the ones whispering behind them and giving them the courage to do it were Harley and Megan. Wasn’t that right?

Seeing that I was staying silent, Harley pulled out his phone again. He offered a high salary to try and rehire me. However, I

shoved his hand aside.

“You’d better focus on cleaning up your work mess instead.

“I’m leaving. Make sure you move your things out before the handover. If any late penalties are incurred, I’ll take you to

court.

“And once you’re tangled up in a lawsuit, the company’s internal structure will likely become unstable. That’ll be even harder to deal with.

“So my advice? Let’s part peacefully. We’ve been married for five years, so I don’t want this to end in a humiliating mess.

With that, I turned away and headed to the bedroom to pack, not sparing him another glance. Maybe my words had worked

Chape

2/2

because Harley didn’t chase after me this time. After lingering for a few minutes, I heard the sound of his footsteps leaving.

I didn’t give it another thought. I finished packing, then hauled my things over to the new apartment I’d just rented.

After two days of rest, I began job bunting. Truthfully, I had quit without another job lined up. The talk about switching orumpanies deßere was just a lie.

But surprisingly, within two days of uploading my resume, I received an offer from a company willing to hire me at double my previous salary. They even offered benefits far exceeding my expectations.

1 can’t hesitate. Once I passed the interview, I signed the contract and started immediately.

During that time, the handover for the apartment also went smoothly. A large sum was deposited directly into my bank

account.

Life became peaceful-no more emotional vampires and no more anxiety.

I didn’t have to worry about a husband chatting with another woman or whether he’d hand off the projects I fought hard for to someone else again.

After just a few days, I could literally feel that my face was no longer as sunken. But Harley, on the other hand, was clearly not doing as well. I had expected as much.

The Honeymoon’s Hidden Price

Chapter 7 “My resignation was approved by you,” I said calmly. “Impossible!
