Juliet returned to the present and gazed at the pudgy, sleazy face before her. This was no longer the youth who would crumple to the ground after a single sucker punch. Asher was no longer around to defend her either.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Juliet had once overheard Asher say to his friend, \u201cJuliet won\u2019t mind. She knows me best and knows when to make the right move.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Juliet finally saw things clearly based on those words.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Asher had always been the one with all the power in their relationship. Even if Juliet married him, their positions would never be equal. Asher would always look down at her from above, controlling her.\u00a0<\/p>\n
In Asher\u2019s subconscious mind, this difference in status would only cement the fact that it was Juliet who managed to marry him due to her lucky stars-that she climbed her way to the top with this.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The determined look in Juliet\u2019s eyes grew stronger.\u00a0<\/p>\n
She had to face her own battles now that she\u2019d forgo the Greene family\u2019s protection.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cSo what if I\u2019ve divorced Asher? Do you actually think you have a chance with me? Let me make this very clear, Caleb-I\u2019ll never ever date a piece of shit like you, not even if I\u2019m stripped of everything I have!\u201d Juliet said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Do you think Asher would\u2019ve set his sights on you if it weren\u2019t for your good looks? Juliet took out her phone and called the police. \u201cHello, 911? I\u2019m at the Millennium Mall on Wharfstreet. There\u2019s someone harassing me as we speak\u2026\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Caleb\u2019s expression changed immediately. He felt incredibly embarrassed at being made a fool of by Juliet.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cAre you insane?\u201d He hissed.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Juliet sneered. \u201cDo you think you can do whatever you please without consequence, all because you have a bit of wealth? Since you\u2019re harassing me, it\u2019s only right that I call the police on you, isn\u2019t it?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cJust you wait!\u201d Caleb snapped. He glared at Juliet before walking away, violently cussing her out as he did.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Juliet stood where she was with her phone still in hand. Her knuckles were whitening from how hard she gripped the device.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Caleb\u2019s words had dug up her buried memories of old.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Juliet recalled living in the village with James when she was ten years old, prior to staying with the Greene family. James drank himself into a stupor every day and spent all his time playing cards with several other useless bums out in the yard. The smoke from their cigarettes would permeate the space as their gruff laughter cut through the air.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYour daughter is as pretty as a fairy, James.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cOf course she is! With my incredibly handsome looks and her mother\u2019s beauty, our girl is bound to be pretty!\u201d James said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cJules is definitely going to be a real beauty when she grows up. Once she comes of age, I\u2019ll marry her off to the local coal mine owner. The bridal gift alone should fetch half a million dollars!\u201d He boasted.\u00a0<\/p>\n
