She rushed to Leopold’s side and grabbed his arm, her voice trembling with fear. “Leopold, don’t say such things! I know you feel guilty and want to prove you’re sorry, but you can’t joke about your own life!”

Leopold shook her off. “I’m serious, Mom”

He turned back to Larissa, his expression solemn. “Larissa, if only you would…”

“Alright then,” Larissa interrupted mockingly. “Pick your method.”

She glanced at Avril. “Avril, would you and your friends be so kind as to find some… tools… for him in the house?”

Avril snapped a playful salute. “Roger that!”

She gave her friends a look. “Let’s go! Find Leopold something to end it all with! We’ll be right back, Leopold!”

Her three friends nodded eagerly and scattered in different directions.

Vivica’s face was a mess of confusion and horror.

Leopold was speechless.

Finley stood in stunned silence.

Paxton’s humiliation was absolute.

Neville, seeing Sapphira looking back with concern, had already decided to leave. “Let Larissa handle the rest. Paxton’s family was no longer a threat. We’ll take Mom and Dad back to get some rest.”

Sapphira nodded, and they had left.

Haskell now leaned toward Larissa, a glint of amusement in his eyes. “Should I go find a suitable instrument for Leopold as well?”

Larissa chuckled softly. “No need, Haskell. Just stay here with me.”

A moment later, Avril burst back in from the kitchen, holding a meat cleaver in one hand and a bag of salt in the other. “Larissa, I’m back!”

Soon after, her friends returned, one holding a pair of shears, another a ten–foot length of rope, and the last a weathered old brick she’d found somewhere.

Larissa had them place their items on the table. She then pulled a small ceramic vial from her own pocket and set it down beside them.

“There you go, Leopold,” she said, gesturing to the collection. “Take your pick. You can stab yourself with the cleaver, swallow the entire bag of salt, snip your own throat with the shears, hang yourself with the rope, or, if you prefer, drink this vial of poison.”

Leopold stood frozen, utterly lost. He was willing to die to atone for what he’d done to his sister, but

1/2

09:30

he had imagined a meaningful death, not this absurd, pointless spectacle. “What’s the matter? No longer willing to die for me?” Larissa taunted

“Of course I am,” he stammered. “It’s just that …”

“Save it, Leopold,” she cut him off coldly. “Do you think you’re some kind of tragic her? Just like when you were willing to have me killed for your precious Honora?”

“I don’t think I’m a hero!” he protested desperately. “I just truly want to make amends…”

“Enough, Larissa said, her voice like ice. “Your life is worthless to me, Leopold. I don’t care whether you live or die.”

Her cold gaze and final words pierced Leopold’s heart. He was consumed by a chilling wave of regret for all the pain he had inflicted on his sister.

“I woke you up for one reason only, Leopold,” she continued. “To let your family see just how pathetic and ridiculous you all are. You disowned your own daughter for the child of a criminal, and I wanted you to see what the consequences would be.”

“Now my goal is achieved. If you don’t want things to get any worse for you, stay out of my life. Don’t ever bother me again. Because if you do, I promise you, I will not be merciful”

Without another glance, she turned and walked out of the West Villa. Crispin followed, pushing Haskell’s wheelchair behind her.

Leopold clutched his chest, watching her retreating figure, his eyes filled with a bottomless ocean of

regret.

Cedella is a passionate storyteller known for her bold romantic and spicy novels that keep readers hooked from the very first chapter.
