But after spending so much time with Larissa, she found she was no longer willing to put up with pointless disrespect. She went over and sat down beside her.

Helena’s brow furrowed as she shot a thoughtful glance at Sapphira. The newly returned Judson girl was one thing, but since when had Sapphira become so assertive? Sitting down without so much as a word of welcome.

Once they were settled, Larissa finally addressed Jagger. “Yes, I hired the band. But you can’t blame me for that. Blame my dear aunt. She’s the one who left me standing outside your gate for over half an hour. I was left with no other choice.”

Helena scoffed. “No other choice?‘ After only half an hour, you decide to raise hell outside my home. If we’d made you wait any longer, I suppose you would have called the news stations?”

Larissa gave her a thumbs–up. “You’re brilliant, Helena! That’s exactly right. If you hadn’t opened the gate when you did, the reporters were next on my list.”

Helena was rendered speechless.

Josette glanced at her mother–in–law’s face and had to suppress a surge of glee. She had spent years walking on eggshells around Helena; it was rare to see someone leave the old woman flustered.

After composing herself, Helena said, “I’ve heard the whole story from your aunt. The day before yesterday, she made a bet with you. If my son could get Zendar to meet with Paxton, you would get on your knees and apologize to her. If he couldn’t, she would do the same for you.”

“That’s right,” Larissa said. “And as you know, she refuses to honor her end of the deal and snuck back here to hide.”

“And now you’ve chased her here,” Helena said with a sneer. “What? Are you really so dead set on forcing your own aunt to kneel before you?”

Larissa nodded, a smile on her face, but her tone was firm. “That’s exactly right. She must apologize. On her knees.”

In all her years, Helena had never seen anyone so brazen in her presence. She turned her gaze to Sapphira. “Mrs. Judson, I know she isn’t your biological daughter. But you’ve accepted her as your own, which makes you her elder. Are you just going to allow her to be so belligerent toward her own aunt?”

“A bet is a bet. It’s only right that she honors it, isn’t it?” Sapphira said, defending her daughter fiercely. “Besides, Josette was the one who came looking for this fight and provoked my daughter. If we let this go, people will think our family is an easy target.”

Josette finally snapped. “It’s one thing for Larissa to be so childish about this, but you, Sapphira? She’s not even your real daughter! Why are you taking this so seriously? You even followed her here to cause a scene!”

Sapphira hated it most when people brought up that Larissa wasn’t her biological child.

09:13154

Chapter 300

“Don’t give me that nonsense,” she said sharply. “Just get on your knees and apologize to L

Josette leaned back on the sofa, crossing her arms. “In your dreams,” she scoffed. “I’m not for anyone. What are you going to do about it?”

Helena stepped in again. “Josette is a Lincoln now. Forcing her to kneel to her niece woul dragging our family’s name through the mud. We can forgive young Ms. Judson for not k better, as she’s new to Regal City. But you, as the lady of the Judson house, should be se her and leave now, and we can forget this whole ridiculous incident ever happened.”

Chapter 300

“Don’t give me that nonsense,” she said sharply. “Just get on your knees and apologize to Larissa.”

Josette leaned back on the sofa, crossing her arms. “In your dreams,” she scoffed. “I’m not kneeling for anyone.
