Maya had been taking care of her all day and was feeling exhausted, but that was nothing compared to how she had been feeling before Abril infused her magic into her. Although she hadn\u2019t thought much about it, the truth was that she was surprised that she still felt good. But she knew it was only an illusion, that her health would deteriorate again at any moment.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Maya was so lost in her thoughts that she didn\u2019t notice when Cassian entered the room until she heard him speak.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cLessan! We have a problem!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat\u2019s going on?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s an army surrounding the palace, and from their banners, they appear to be elves.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cBut how? Why haven\u2019t the alarms sounded?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI think they teleported.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cMaya, take care of Lissana. Cassian, stay with them.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Alessandro put his hand on his brother\u2019s shoulder and said, \u201cThat\u2019s why I want you to stay with them. If there\u2019s any trouble, run with them.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cPromise me that if the palace falls, you\u2019ll run without looking back.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cOkay, I promise. But promise me you won\u2019t do anything stupid.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Alessandro approached Lissana, kissed her forehead, and said, \u201cDaddy will be back soon.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Then he turned to Cassian and Maya. \u201cPlease, take care of my little girl.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will,\u201d they responded at the same time.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Alessandro headed for the entrance where the elven army was. On his way, he ran into Taren, who said, \u201cI heard we were under attack. Who\u2019s attacking us?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re not attacking yet, they\u2019ve only surrounded the royal palace.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Alessandro used his wind to create a barrier around himself and appeared before them. He searched for Dantriel or Ethan, but they didn\u2019t seem to be anywhere. That only made his concern even greater; there was no one familiar to negotiate with. Alessandro filled his lungs with air and spoke in a loud voice so that he could be heard clearly.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI am Alessandro Veriatte, King of Cosset. Why are you surrounding my palace? Am I to take this\u00a0<\/p>\n
action as a declaration of war?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
A blonde woman stepped forward from among the soldiers, and two more followed behind her, their weapons ready to block any attack.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The closer the blonde woman got, the tenser Alessandro became, as the woman\u2019s features were familiar to him. She bore a strong resemblance to Abril.\u00a0<\/p>\n
She continued to advance until she was in front of him. \u201cSince you have introduced yourself, I will\u00a0<\/p>\n
do the same.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Her golden eyes were just like Abril\u2019s, yet completely different. Abril\u2019s were soft and warm, while this woman\u2019s were cold and fierce like a lion\u2019s. In a firm voice, she made her introduction.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI am Enora Babette, Queen of Arkala, the Elven Kingdom.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd to what do I owe the visit of the Elven Queen? To what do I owe this affront?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI see no anger in your eyes, only fear. That means you already know why I\u2019m here. I\u2019ve come for the\u00a0<\/p>\n
half\u2013breed.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know what you\u2019re talking about. There\u2019s no Half\u2013breed here.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Alessandro created a strong gust of wind and responded with a defiant voice, \u201cI will not hand over\u00a0<\/p>\n

Enora approached Alessandro, and with her magic, she nullified his strong wind. With a swift movement, she grabbed Alessandro by the neck with one hand, lifting him slightly off the ground, and said, \u201cI don\u2019t want to spill unnecessary blood, human king. I just want you to hand over the half\u2013breed to me. So why don\u2019t you stop playing brave? You have no chance of beating me. So tell\u00a0<\/p>\n

Although Enora didn\u2019t look thin, Alessandro was surprised to be lifted off the ground by her, as she was much stronger than she appeared.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The soldiers behind Alessandro pointed their bows at Enora; the archers behind Enora did the\u00a0<\/p>\n
same.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Alessandro struggled until he broke free of her grip, moved away from her, and said, \u201cYou can go back the way you came. She\u2019s not here.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Enora could sense other users of light magic, which is why she had made the decision to personally go and look for the half\u2013breed. Because even though they denied she was there, Enora\u00a0<\/p>\n
could feel her energy.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI already told you it\u2019s useless to try to fool me. I can feel her energy. I know she\u2019s in the palace, and I also know that her magic is getting out of control.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Alessandro was sure that Abril was not in the palace, but seeing the look of certainty on the queen\u2019s face, he doubted it for a moment. Then he wondered if Now she was referring to Lissana and not Abril, but her power had not yet awakened, so here he came to the conclusion that it was all a bluff to get what she wanted.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Enora could feel how that magic was in chaos, so she thought to use that as a weapon.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI can feel her repressed magic consuming her. If you refuse to hand her over to me, she will end up dying.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
