Alessandro was in his office when he heard something crash against the window. At first, he thought it must have been the rain, but he heard it again, so he got up, opened the window, and a paper bird flew in through the window. It landed on his hand and immediately turned into a letter.\u00a0<\/p>\n
It was Sirius\u2018 report, but there was also a letter from Abril.\u00a0<\/p>\n
After reading both, he wished he could be by Abril\u2019s side, wishing he could console her grieving heart.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Cassian knocked on the door.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cLessan, can I come in?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cOf course.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s dinner time, will you join us?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cassian, seeing his brother downcast, asked him, \u201cHas something happened?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, it seems that the kingdom of Laios is being contaminated by darkness. The land and water have\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cMaya is doing well now. Maybe I should go to Laios and join Abril.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt seems things in Laios are going very wrong.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, I thought that closing the Hades rift with Aby would be enough, but it seems I was wrong.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t worry, I won\u2019t give up. I don\u2019t know why Maya refuses to marry me, but I\u2019m sure I can change her mind. She loves me as much as I love her; it\u2019s just a matter of time until she accepts.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m glad to hear that doesn\u2019t discourage you.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cSometimes it does, but like I said, I won\u2019t give up. You know how stubborn I can be when something gets into my head.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Maya was in the dining room, moving back and forth, soothing little Lissana. Alessandro was grateful that Maya had Lissana there. He held his daughter in his arms, and seeing her little face made him feel a bit better, helping him cope with his beloved\u2019s absence.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI thought you\u2019d like to see her; that\u2019s why I thought it would be a good idea for her to have dinner with us, but she\u2019s already sleepy.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThank you very much.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Alessandro rocked her in his arms, and soon enough, Lissana fell asleep.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIt seems she has fallen asleep.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
There was a small crib next to Alessandro\u2019s seat; he gently placed her there and took his own seat. Maya and Cassian did the same.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The maids served the dishes with food and then withdrew. Once alone, Maya asked, \u201cDo you know anything about Abril?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, she is fine, but it seems her trip will be extended a little longer than planned.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cDid any problem arise?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cLet\u2019s say yes.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI wish I could help in some way.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cBarto doesn\u2019t like to leave Farell much, but if I ask him, I\u2019m sure he\u2019ll come.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cassian took Maya\u2019s hand and asked her, \u201cAre you thinking of going to Farell?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cDon\u2019t worry, I have a way to communicate with him; there\u2019s no need for me to go personally.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI haven\u2019t seen your brother in a long time. I hope he doesn\u2019t hold a grudge against me.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Maya didn\u2019t respond to Cassian\u2019s comment. He asked her, \u201cIs your brother still mad at me?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cPerhaps a little, but don\u2019t worry, he\u2019s not a violent person, or at least almost never.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Cassian thought, It seems I\u2019ll have to make an effort to make my brother\u2013in\u2013law accept me.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cira was in her cave, surrounded by several of the monsters she had released from Hades. They had become her eyes and ears outside of that mountain, but since she hadn\u2019t fully regained her power, a few monsters had broken free from her control, and she didn\u2019t know their whereabouts. She just hoped it wouldn\u2019t become a problem in the near future, at least until she recovered all her power.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The voice of the demon inside her spoke again in her head.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWhy don\u2019t you let me take control? If you do, you will regain all your power and even more.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI already told you no.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThen go back to Laios. If you do, you will be able to absorb the energy overflowing from the crack that\u00a0<\/p>\n
leads to Hades there.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIsn\u2019t that the same as giving you control of my body?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cNot exactly. Before, there were monsters and more princes and princesses of Hades who were looking\u00a0<\/p>\n
for a physical body, but apparently, they are no longer there. If you go, there won\u2019t be anything that wants to\u00a0<\/p>\n
consume you.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWhy aren\u2019t they there?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know. I just know that they have left. I can feel it; they are in the depths of Hades. So why don\u2019t you take this opportunity?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd how do I know you\u2019re not tricking me?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIf what I\u2019m telling you were a lie, I would have said it a long time ago to make you go.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cira was tired of being trapped in darkness. Even if it was painful or unpleasant, she would try it. She would do anything to get out of that damn hole she was in.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat do I have to do?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cJust put your hand on them. I\u2019ll do the rest.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Cira did as he told her. She placed her hand on the closest creature and could feel how it started to\u00a0<\/p>\n
absorb it. As she did, she felt something cold and dark entering under her skin and deep into her being. It caused her great pain; she let out a shriek. She felt as if her whole body was freezing and burning at the\u00a0<\/p>\n
same time. It lasted for a while.\u00a0<\/p>\n
When the pain subsided, that voice in her head said, \u201cI told you it wouldn\u2019t be pleasant. You\u2019ll need to\u00a0<\/p>\n
absorb more than one if you want to reach Laios.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Cira couldn\u2019t. Her body still felt the pain. She shuddered at the mere thought of having to do it again. That voice in her head challenged her and said, \u201cWill you give up?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Cira wanted to do it, but she would\u00a0<\/p>\n
give up. She would leave that cave even if she had to go through it\u00a0<\/p>\n
100 times more. She wiped the tears of pain still running down her cheeks and said to herself, \u201cI\u2019ll do whatever it takes to get out of this place.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
