Cassian and Maya were the first to approach and congratulate the queen on her coronation; they made an exaggerated bow and said,\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cLong live Her Majesty the Queen.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Everyone present imitated them, bowed, and in unison said,\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cLong live the Queen, the mother of our kingdom, and long live the King, the father of our realm.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Alessandro signaled for the musicians to start playing again and said to everyone,\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u2018This is a day of double celebration.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Alessandro extended his hand to Abril, who stood up with her head held high, with queenly dignity. He took her hand and continued,\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe celebrate the naming ceremony of my brother Cassian and the coronation of my beloved wife and queen.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Alessandro always stressed how beloved she was as his queen, wanting no one to doubt how much he loved her and that he would not allow anyone to dare harm her.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cSo drink and dance, let\u2019s enjoy this day together.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
The nobles began to disperse; some returned to the dance floor, others took their glasses and toasted, while others approached the royal couple to congratulate the newly crowned\u00a0<\/p>\n
queen,\u00a0<\/p>\n
Abril grew tired of sitting and listening to the nobles\u2018 compliments while the others danced happily on the dance floor. Alessandro noticed this, stood up, extended his hand, and bowed\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cMy queen, may I have this dance?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Abril smiled and took the hand Alessandro offered her, eager to join the dance.\u00a0<\/p>\n

They both headed to the dance floor. Upon arrival, all the couples stepped aside to make\u00a0<\/p>\n

room for the royal couple. This made Abril feel a flutter of nerves as all eyes were once w focused on her. Alessandro placed one hand on her waist and held her hand with the other They both began to move to the rhythm of the music. Feeling the slight tremor in Abi\u2019s hands, he asked her,\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cAre you nervous?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, everyone is watching us.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cJust focus on me, pretend they\u2019re not there. Right now, it\u2019s just you and me.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Those words calmed Abril\u2019s heart, and she locked eyes with him, letting herself be carried away by the soft music, losing herself in the dream world she had always imagined. Alessandro felt Abril\u2019s warm body and her soft fingers wrapped around his hand. He spun her gracefully on the dance floor. She didn\u2019t miss a single step, having listened to him, focusing her gaze entirely on him, and said,\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThis has been my best dance.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI thought this was your first?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd it is even better than I had dreamed. I will never forget it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cPerhaps, but I\u2019ll cherish this one in my heart.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Alessandro felt the urge to kiss her, and he leaned forward, gently placing his lips on hers.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI love you, Aby, my queen.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd I love you, Lessan.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
They continued dancing several more songs until Abril began to feel tired and asked Alessandro if they could rest for a moment. He led her to the nearest balcony. The fresh breeze caressed their faces, providing relief from the stifling heat inside the ballroom.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cAre you thirsty?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Abril nodded.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ll go get something to drink. Wait for me here.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cOkay.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
While waiting for Alessandro, Abril looked up at the sky. The full moon shone brightly in the clear sky, with stars softly twinkling. She took a deep breath, filling her lungs with fresh air,\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the best day of my life\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

At least, until when she heard screams of terror coming from the ballroom. She rushed back inside to see what was happening and was met with a terrifying sight. The beautiful dream she had been immersed in minutes before turned into a nightmare.\u00a0<\/p>\n
She saw a wavering horror rising in the middle of the ballroom. It was black and thick like ink, leaving dark, pasty stains wherever it stepped. It had two white, burning eyes. Its hands ended in flat, shovel\u2013like ends, each with a single black claw protruding.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Alessandro and Cassian were struggling to contain them while the guests ran around in horror. Some guards tried to get everyone out as fast as they could, while others joined the battle against that creature that seemed to have come from the very jaws of hell.\u00a0<\/p>\n
But everyone who got too close ended up being devoured by the darkness and turned into another one of those undulating creatures, and soon there were more than one to defeat. Alessandro shouted for everyone to stay back while using his wind magic to create a wall. Cassian did the same with earth, raising the marble floor and trying to contain the creatures, but they were viscous and soft, easily passing through all obstacles.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Abril ran towards where Alessandro was, and seeing her approaching, made his blood run cold, and he shouted for her to stay away, not to come towards them; but Abril knew she was the only one who could defeat those creatures born of darkness, so she continued running. She hadn\u2019t yet broken all the seals, and her mastery of magic wasn\u2019t the best, but she believed she was strong enough to defeat those creatures, or at least that\u2019s what she wanted\u00a0<\/p>\n
to believe.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Alessandro was distracted for a moment when he saw Abril running towards them, towards the danger, and lost focus. Something moved at the edge of his vision just as Abril\u2019s voice rang out in his ears:\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cLessan, watch out!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
He lunged to the side, dodging the flickering shadow that nearly engulfed him. Abril launched a ball of light at the creature closest to Alessandro, and when that ball of light hit the creature, a thunderous screech echoed. Abril covered her ears for a moment and then launched another attack at the creature, causing it to vanish with her light.\u00a0<\/p>\n
She stood in front of Alessandro, and to many, it might have seemed amusing that such a small and delicate woman was using her body as a shield to protect Alessandro, but for him, it was the bravest and most terrifying thing Abril had ever done. She continued attacking the creatures that approached them, hissing like a snake, until none were left, until all those\u00a0<\/p>\n

She looked at Alessandro and asked him.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThat doesn\u2019t matter, are you okay?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYes.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWhere did those things come from?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know, before I realized it, everyone was screaming in terror.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Alessandro took Abril\u2019s face in his hands and said,\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWhy did you come here? It was so dangerous; you should have left.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
She shook her head.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI couldn\u2019t do that. When I saw you were in danger, my body moved on its own. Before I knew it, I was already running here. I told you that I would fight by your side. I don\u2019t want to be the only one who is protected; I also want to protect you. So I will always run to you, no matter the circumstances or the danger.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Alessandro wrapped his arms around her, speechless because he felt the same way. He was willing to risk his life to protect her.\u00a0<\/p>\n
