Are you fucking crazy?!” Penelope screamed, her chair screeching behind her as she shot to her feet. She lunged toward Nora like she was ready to tear her hair out, but Kai wrapped one arm around her waist from behind.

It wasn’t to stop a fight, no, Kai never held Penelope back from fighting, especially if it was to defend me. If anything, he usually joined in, especially when a man was involved. He always let her burn the world down if she wanted. The only reason he was holding her now was because I hadn’t said anything yet.

He was waiting for me to decide what to do with Nora.

Nora smiled, flicking her hair back as if she were some goddess everyone should worship. “Oh my God, how clumsy of me. That was an accident, Violet. I apologize. I didn’t mean to splash water on you.” She shrugged casually. “You were just in my way.”

Penelope’s rage spiked even more. She twisted violently in Kai’s hold, her hands flying up in the air as she tried to break free. “Kai, let me go! I’m going to kill her! I swear I’m going to kill this stupid bitch! How fucking dare she?!”

Nora rolled her eyes, completely fearless, or maybe just incredibly stupid. She acted like Penelope was nothing. As if Kai holding Penelope back was normal instead of him saving Nora’s ass from getting her bones broken. If only she knew how many times Penelope had wanted to snap her like a twig, and how many times I was the one who told her to leave it.

I looked at Nora.

“You call this an accident?”

Nora nodded immediately, that smirk never leaving her face. “Of course it was an accident. Are you saying I did it on purpose? Why would I ever do that?” She gestured around the cafeteria dramatically. “It’s not like anyone saw me do it intentionally.”

She looked around like she owned the place. Everyone avoided her eyes, some shifting uncomfortably, but none of them said a word.

Nora’s smile widened, convinced she’d won. She truly believed she was in control. She stared at me, waiting for me to explode, make a scene, and embarrass myself so she could laugh about it later. But instead, I simply nodded, calm, and unbothered.

“I see.”

Nora froze. “W-what?”

Even Penelope stopped thrashing in Kai’s grip and whipped her head toward me. “What?!”

“It was an accident,” I said simply, brushing a wet strand of hair behind my ear.

Penelope’s jaw dropped. “Violet, it was not a fucking accident. Everyone can see that!” She looked betrayed, and furious. “Are you seriously going to let her get away with it?! At least let me beat her up so she won’t have an ‘accident’ next time!”

I didn’t say a word.

Nora’s gaze dragged over me from head to toe. “Good. At least you still know your place. Just because you changed your

Chapter 136

55 vouchers

appearance doesn’t mean you’re different, Violet. I hope he’s doing well. I heard about him and felt so bad. If he had a better sister, he wouldn’t have gone through what he did.”

Penelope exhaled a violent, “You fucking-”

Nora’s smile stretched wider, and with a proud flip of her hair, she strutted back toward her table. She sat down, crossing her legs as if she’d just put a wild dog back in its kennel.

Penelope slammed her hand onto the table with a force that made the plates and glasses rattle. “Violet! Are you seriously going to let her get away with that? She even brought up your brother!”

Kai leaned back, resting his elbow on the table, chin on his hand. His other arm stayed wrapped casually around Penelope’s waist to keep her from flying across the cafeteria.

He looked at me lazily. “Do you really think she’ll let it go, Pen?”

Penelope turned to him, confused. “What are you talking about?”

I tilted my head slightly and let a dangerous smirk curl across my lips. The look alone made Penelope’s mouth fall open, caught between shock and disbelief..

I slowly pushed my chair back, standing and reaching for the big, steaming bowl of spicy soup in front of me. The heat curled around my fingers as I lifted it.

“Impossible…” Penelope’s voice trembled, a mix of shock and excitement. “You’re really going to-”

I winked at her, then turned and strode toward Nora’s table. The cafeteria seemed to hold its breath as I crossed the room. Nora and Riley were talking casually, even a little relieved, until Riley looked at me, and froze instantly.

Her eyes widened, her throat bobbing, and she grabbed Nora’s arm without even realizing it.

“N-Nora…”

“Huh?” Nora frowned. “What is it?”

“Behind you.”

She turned just as I lifted the bowl. Her eyes barely had time to widen before the steaming soup cascaded over her.

Steam rose from the bowl as it ran down her hair, neck, and shoulders, soaking her designer outfit and splattering onto the floor and table. She froze, too shocked to make a sound, before letting out a piercing, high-pitched scream that sliced through the cafeteria and ricocheted off the walls. Everyone stared, frozen in shock.

Behind me, Penelope gasped dramatically, then burst into delighted laughter. “Oh my God-”

Riley covered her mouth, horrified, frozen in place.

Nora stumbled to her feet, clutching her burning-red face, screaming even louder. “A-AHHHH!! My eyes! Violet! Are you crazy?! What the hell did you just do?!”

I reached for the napkin on her table, wiped my hands clean, folded it neatly, and placed it back as if I’d just finished dinner. Then, I finally looked at her with complete indifference.

“Oh,” I said slowly. “That was an accident, Nora.”

39

55 exact words. “You were just in my way.”

“Y-you-”

I took a step closer and tilted my head.

“Next time,” I added, “move
