They did the same thing over and over until their moves became almost predictable. That was how I knew this was going to happen. These people only turned to the law when they had no other way out, and when their manipulation no longer worked.

The irony was that they hated the law, but the moment it suited them, they clung to it. And, of course, they thought threatening a college girl with no one by her side would be the easiest win.

They were wrong.

That’s why I’d asked Hades to prepare a few things before I came here today. One of them sat right beside me now, Silas Ryder, the best lawyer in the world. I knew they’d use one of the best lawyers in the country, so I’d gone over the top. Why fight fair when I could crush them with someone better?

Silas Ryder was a contradiction. A handsome face with a devil’s tongue, he was only thirty-seven, yet undefeated in every courtroom he’d stepped into. He didn’t chase money, well he didn’t need to, he came from wealth himself. What he wanted was the thrill, the impossible cases, the fights that kept him awake at night because they amused him. He was the kind of man who could start an argument and twist it until the other person walked away believing they were the one at fault. People didn’t just call him the best. They called him dangerous.

So yes, Silas was the perfect man to deal with people like these.

At first, I thought it was a gamble, asking Hades to bring him to me on such short notice. But Hades had delivered without hesitation. That alone showed me just how influential he really was. Maybe I’d underestimated him.

I glanced at Silas, he was impossibly cocky in that moment, and then at their lawyer, who was practically trembling. The fear in his eyes said it all. He already knew who Silas was, and he was terrified. But unlike their lawyer, the women across from me still wore that infuriatingly smug expression.

One of them let out a sharp laugh. “I see. This guy’s just as crazy as the girl beside him. What the hell is he even saying? Two choices? Please. Is he even a real lawyer? He looks like a con artist.” She turned her smirk on me. “Seems you’re being played, girl. With the little money you’ve got, you went and hired a fake.”

I stared at her, my face blank. Even beside me, Silas remained perfectly calm, as if her words barely registered.

The lawyer beside the woman leaned forward, his lips barely moving. “Shut up.”

No one noticed, or seemed to hear him.

The woman only rolled her eyes and spoke even louder, her voice cutting through the room. “She’s so dumb, she went and hired a pretty boy. Look at him. He doesn’t even look like a lawyer; he looks like he belongs on the cover of some cheap magazine.”

The others nodded in agreement, their eyes condescending as they looked down on Silas.

My aunt grinned. “Violet, stop wasting your time with that guy and, like they said, just get on your knees and apologize. They’ll forget this whole thing ever happened and let it go.”

At her words, Silas tilted his head toward me, amusement curling across his face. I was taken aback, was it only me, or did he seem annoyed that I was being told to go on my knees and apologize?

“Did they ask you to go on your knees before?” he asked, his tone calm..

I nodded. “They did.”

E

10:57 Tue,

Chapter 97

5p youeros

Silas chuckled under his breath, a low, unsettling sound. He leaned back lazily in his chair, but his eyes darkened. “How amusing. They want you to kneel?” His gaze shifted to the women. “How can nobodies like you think you can demand that from his woman?”

He continued, his voice colder now. “You can call me a faithful friend or whatever you like, but right now I’m furious that you think you can bully someone like her. I’m the kind of man who believes everyone should know their place. Who do you think you are to demand that of her, when it should be you on your knees, begging her to spare your life?”

I had no idea what his relationship with Hades was, but it was obvious Silas held him in high regard. I knew it was silly, but I was glad Hades had another good friend besides Alec.

The women weren’t fazed. One of them scoffed loudly. “What on earth are you even saying? You keep spewing nonsense. We’re done here. Since you’ve chosen not to cooperate, you leave us no choice. Robert, ruin them. Ruin her and that man

too.”

I turned my head to watch Robert.

He sat rigid, shoulders tight, knuckles white on the table. His eyes were fixed on Silas like a rabbit cornered by a wolf.

Silas didn’t break the stare. He tilted his head. “Yes, Robert. Begin. Let’s see what you’re capable of.”

Robert’s Adam’s apple bobbed hard.

The women, oblivious, kept piling on. “Keep talking big, our lawyer will destroy everything you own! He’ll bury you in court, put you behind bars, and make you an example! You’ll regret even stepping into this room!”

Each word made Robert tremble harder. His eyes darted between them and Silas as if silently begging them to shut up before they sealed their own fate.

“You will-”

Bang.

Robert’s fist slammed down on the table, the sound so loud it silenced the entire room.

“Shut the fuck up,” he snarled, his voice shaking. “You crazy bitches, shut the fuck up before you get us all killed.”

Everyone turned to him, surprised.

One of the women stammered, “Robert? W-what is wrong? Why are you like this?”

Robert scoffed, face hardening. “Why am I like this? Is that a fucking question?” He pointed at them like they’d lost their minds. “Are you blind? Even if you’re rich housewives, you should still have a hint of common sense in your brain. Can’t you see who is sitting in front of you?”

Riley was the first to gasp. Her eyes went wide and a flash of fear crossed her face. “I-I knew I saw his face somewhere. I just wasn’t sure.”

My aunt stuttered, “Huh? You know him, Riley? Who is he?”

Robert ran a hand through his hair in panic. “This is Silas Ryder, the best lawyer in the damn world!”

They froze, their faces drained of color. They looked at Silas, then at me in shock. Robert swore under his breath. “Do you get it now? We’re screwed. We are fucking screwed. This man will ruin us. Fuck! This is why I told you to do your research on her backer. If a man like Silas is focused on this case, it means the person backing her is someone we should never mess with if we want to keep our lives as they are. You people ruined my career. I will have nothing left now.”

Tue,

Chapter 97

90

EL 35 buchery

The women had no words. They just sat and stared, the confident masks falling away. If their lawyer looked like he was about to collapse, they knew they were in deep trouble.

My aunt started to speak. “Violet-” but I cut her off by leaning back in my chair and looking at all of them coldly.

“Since the drama is over, let’s start the meeting from the beginning.” I tilted my head, meeting each of their eyes in turn. “People don’t sit when they want to apologise for doing something wrong.
