I wasn’t the kind of man who traded words when a fist said the same thing faster. Most of the time, I didn’t even need to get that far, once people found out who I was, their whole posture shifted. The arrogant turned submissive. Usually, I stayed calm, because most people were irrelevant. I never let them get a rise out of me.

But tonight I had to control every fibre of my being to stop myself from destroying everything around me.

My jaw tightened, my gaze dark, as I stood with my arms folded, watching her on the bed. She was pale, her breathing slow. The old doctor moved carefully around her, syringes and vials neatly arranged on the table. He injected something into her arm, and she winced. Then, without a word, he turned away and began packing his things into a small box.

“Don’t tell me you’re done treating her?”

He stopped and bowed his head. “Yes, Mr. Hades. I believe I’m done treating your guest.”

I glanced at Violet. She was still twitching in her sleep. That look in her face didn’t sit well with me. I turned back to the doctor.

“You’re not done,” I said, my voice low. “Do what you can to reduce her pain. If she’s still suffering, I will make sure your whole family knows what pain really is, so treat her properly.”

The doctor’s head dipped lower. His hands tightened around the box. He cleared his throat and said, “I apologise, Mr. Hades, but this is all I can do. The young miss will soon fall asleep once the medicine kicks in.”

I frowned. If this man had been anyone else, I would have called him incompetent, kicked him out of the house, and ruined his career. But this man was the Sinclair family doctor, he was one of the best in the country. He was experienced enough to make me trust his words.

“You may leave.” I waved my hand, I didn’t have the time to deal with anyone else.

The doctor started toward the door but paused. He turned back, bowing his head deeper this time. “I know I’m risking my life by saying this, but judging from what happens to the people close to you, it might be best to stay away from the woman. You ruin everything you touch, Mr. Hades.”

He bowed once more and left.

The door clicked shut behind the doctor, and I turned my attention back to her. Her breathing was better, her face no longer so drawn, and a touch of color was returning to her skin. For the first time since I’d brought her here, she slept soundly.

There was a light knock at the door. “Come in,”

Alec stepped in. I didn’t waste time. “Have you found out what happened?”

He nodded. “Yes. I did. Levi is in your study waiting.”

I gave her one last look before murmuring, “Let’s go.” Without waiting for a reply, I strode forward, Alec’s footsteps steady behind me.

At the study, I pushed the door open. Levi stood in the middle of the room, frozen, like a small animal cornered with no way out.

“M-Mr… Hades-” He stammered.

10:56 Tue, Jan 6

Chapter 91

Before he could finish. I grabbed the front of his shirt and hauled him across the room I slammed him down on my d The impact rang out across the room. I snatched a pen and held the tip level with his eyes.

His pupils blew wide with fear. He opened his mouth to speak, but the look in my gaze stopped him cold.

I looked down at him. “Do you doubt that I can end your life right here without blinking?

He shook his head so fast his whole body trembled. “No! No, sir.”

“If that’s so.” I growled, “then explain why you let her be in danger in the first place. Why didn’t you do anything? Why didn’t you inform me? I put you on her to protect her at all costs, even at the cost of your life. You failed. That means your life in worthless to me. And you don’t deserve to breathe if you’re worthless.”

I held the pen poised over his eyes, about to drive it in. I wasn’t a kind person. I didn’t grant mercy to those who didn’t deserve it. Human emotions were useless. Unlike most, I didn’t think twice before getting rid of something

“My wife gave birth, sir!” he yelled, gasping for breath.

I paused, the pen arrested midair. For a moment I didn’t move, staring down at him with complete indifference

He babbled on, voice cracking. “I-I’m sorry, sir. I only wanted to be there for a few minutes. I shouldn’t have leál ez do better. I have a child now, I don’t want her to grow up without a father.”

I didn’t say a word at first. After a while, I dropped the pen, and threw him across the room. He hit the far wall with a shad and slid down. I knew he cracked a bone or two. I don’t normally use that much strength on people especially my men but I was furious.

I ran a hand through my hair. So much for human emotions. If it had been before, I would have stabbed his eyes for what he’d done, maybe not killed him, but I would have given him something he’d never forget. I guess I’m getting soft

That woman was changing me.

I turned away from him and looked at Alec as if the man on the floor didn’t matter. “Give me every piece of information you have. Don’t leave anything out.”

“She-

“No, first tell me who injured her.” The memory of the wound on her head flashed in my mind. I knew that mark. Someone had laid a hand on her.

“I’ll make them pay, I might take my time on others, but I will not forgive whoever touched my woman

田

AD

Comment

Send gift

No Ads

10:56 Tue, Jan 6

Nights Burn With Regret — by Nathan Perez 91 Chapter 91 Chapter 91 Hades Flashback I didn’t waste time […]

[83

post-28007","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-craving-the-guardian-novel
["GET
