A woman who wanted his attention, who thought by waiting in the rain she’d look fragile. A woman who thought Hades Sinclair would see her as something delicate to hold on to. But I wasn’t here for attention, or pity.

My hair clung to my face, rain streamed down my cheeks, and my clothes were cold against my body.

How long had I been sitting there? Hours? I couldn’t tell anymore. Time blurred together. All I knew was when I left that house, my legs carried me here. I knocked on his gate, again and again, but no one came out.

So I waited. I told myself I’d wait until they returned. Even if it took all night, or days. Hell, even weeks. What else could I do? Waiting was the only choice I had.

I looked down at my feet, and it hit me how pitiful I must look. I had only one shoe on. I must have run here without even realizing I’d lost the other.

I pulled my phone from my pocket. It was wet, the screen dotted with raindrops.

The last text was from Kai, a few minutes ago.

[Penelope has fallen asleep next to Sebastian. You don’t need to worry about him, we will stay here with him.]

I bit my lip until I tasted blood. I should be there with Sebastian, waiting for him to wake up. What kind of sister sat here in the rain while her brother lay unconscious? But I couldn’t go back, and face him like this. What if he woke up only to return to this life.

I wasn’t going to let him live in this hell any longer. I was going to give him the life he deserved, even if it cost me my own.

I closed my eyes, breathing hard, when I realized the rain was no longer hitting me.

Did the rain stop?

I slowly opened my eyes.

Someone was standing in front of me.

I froze, forcing myself to look up until I met those familiar blue eyes staring down at me. My heart jumped violently against my ribs.

Hades.

It had only been a day since I last saw him, yet it felt like a lifetime. He stood there in a dark suit, every line of fabric tailored to his body as if it belonged to him alone. One hand rested casually in his pocket, the other holding an umbrella above me Rain slid down his broad shoulders, soaking him.

“I…” I tried to speak, but nothing came out. Even though he looked the same as always, there was something different, and it

terrified me.

Normally, when Hades looked at me, his lips would curl into that cocky grin, or his eyes would glint with teasing amusement that made me want to both punch him and kiss him. But this time, it was nothing like that.

Chapter 88

His face was cold. He looked like a man on the edge of destroying everything around him.

If my legs weren’t too weak, I would have taken a step back.

His blue eyes dragged over me, taking in my rain-soaked clothes, my trembling body, and my bare foot.

My fingers curled into fists against my knees. Fear twisted in my stomach, but I refused to shrink away. I forced my voice out. “I-I’m sorry for waiting here without your permission-”

“What happened?” he cut me off, his voice darker than I’d ever heard it before.

I blinked at him, for a moment, all I could do was stare.

Behind him, I caught sight of Alec. He stood a few steps back, rain dripping from his coat, his sharp eyes fixed on me.

Get it out, Violet. I told myself.

I tried to stand, but the moment I pushed myself up, the world tilted sideways. My legs wobbled, and I felt myself slipping.

Before I could fall, his hand was at my waist, catching me. My fingers clutched at his shirt desperately, holding on as though that was the only thing keeping me upright.

I must have looked like a helpless woman with the way I leaned against him, but I couldn’t help it. My body felt at the verge of collapsing completely. I wondered how I’d even stayed conscious until now. Maybe it had been the adrenaline carrying me this far.

Hades’s gaze lingered on me, his eyes darkened. “Who is it?”

I didn’t know what he meant, but the way he asked, I understood whoever’s name I gave him, he was ready to kill.

“I will do whatever you want, Hades.”

“What?”

“I’ll marry you,” I said, “I’ll give you as many kids as you want. I’ll never disobey you. And when you get tired of me, I’ll leave quietly without taking anything. Please, help me.”

Hades didn’t move. He just stared at me, his eyes locked on mine as if he were weighing every word I said. Then he pulled me closer.

Without another word, he threw the umbrella aside. The rain fell down harder, soaking us both, but he didn’t seem to care. In one motion, he shrugged out of his suit jacket, wrapped it around me, and swept me up into his arms.

The suddenness startled me, and my lips parted in protest. But the moment my cheek brushed against his chest, all the fight drained out of me. For the first time all day, I felt calm,

Hades bent his head. “Sleep, princess. I’ll take care of it.”

My eyelids grew heavy, impossible to keep open.

Just before they shut completely, I caught his voice again, this time aimed at Alec.

“Find out what happened, Alec,”

“What should I do afterwards?”

Hades’s arms tightened around me as he carried me forward. “Do nothing. It isn’t your place to punish them.”

That was the last thing I heard before I lost consciousness, safe and warm against the chest of the man I had once sworn to

stay away from.

田

Comment

Send gift

AD

No Ads

10:56 Tue, Jan 6 •

Nights Burn With Regret — by Nathan Perez 88 Chapter 88 Chapter 88 255 elicher Violet I never thought […]

[83

post-28004","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-craving-the-guardian-novel
["GET
