It was not my grandfather, the wealthiest man on earth. Not my adoptive siblings, Robert and Piper, who were both greedy, clawing at Father’s legacy like wolves at a carcass, or uncle Roman, who kept to himself.

But Hades fucking Sinclair.

He was terrifying, and worse, he smiled like the devil just before taking your soul.

I kept my head low, my fingers curling tighter around the fork in my hand as his shoes echoed down the marble floor, each step slow and unbothered, like he owned the damn place.

He sat at the far end of the table, facing Grandfather directly.

“Good evening, old man,” My father said casually. “Still breathing, I see. Guess you haven’t kicked the bucket yet.”

Grandfather paused. He stopped eating, for the first time that night, and slowly lifted his head.

Their eyes met.

Two predators in the same cage.

“I see that foul mouth of yours still hasn’t been stitched shut,” Grandfather said.

Hades smirked, that slow, cruel curl of his lips that sent a shiver down my spine.

“Of course not, old man. How else am I going to piss you

off?”

Their exchange sucked the air from the room. I stared at my plate, pretending to be invisible. No one ever dared speak to Grandfather like that, except my father. He was the only one who could get away with it.

“I see, you haven’t changed. Still the devil you always were.”

Hades tilted his head lazily, fingers steepled in front of him.

“What can I say? It’s hard for people to change,” he said. “You should know that better than anyone.‘

My grandfather said nothing, and silence settled over the room. It was Robert who broke first.

“B–Brother,” he said with a fake, cheerful laugh. “You’re here. It’s been… seven years, right? How have you

been?”

Hades turned his gaze to him, like he’d only just noticed there were other people in the room.

He raised an eyebrow. “What’s your name again?”

The silence was deafening. Even the servants froze.

Robert’s jaw dropped open, and his face went pale.

1/4

get you a stepmother soon, 200

+25 Bonus

“W–What do you mean?” he stammered. “I’m your younger brother, Robert! We’ve met so many times! I’ve introduced myself again and again, so why would you- ”

Hades glanced at him. That was all it took. Robert shut his mouth like a puppet on a snapped string.

Hades shrugged. “Must I know your name?”

Robert swallowed, eyes wide. “No. Of course not. It’s understandable. Not everyone remembers their siblings‘ names.”

Piper, who had been silent until now, clutched her wine glass tightly and said in a sweet voice, “I–I’m Piper, brother. Your younger sister.”

“I see.” Hades turned to her. He drummed his fingers, his sharp gaze sliding across everyone until it landed on the empty chair beside me.

He tilted his head and muttered, more to himself than anyone, “Seems Roman isn’t here again.
