\u201cSarah, slow down!\u201d Natalie went after her daughter and ran toward the yard.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cLuc, it really is you!\u201d Sarah exclaimed and hugged Lucian\u2019s leg in excitement.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Lucian held the umbrella in his hand over Sarah\u2019s head, shielding her from the rain.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWhy are you here?\u201d she asked curiously.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI live here.\u201d With the flashlight, Lucian illuminated the path Natalie would take to reach them.\u00a0<\/p>\n
In the darkness of the night, Natalie was holding a small floral umbrella. The wind was cold, and it could easily chill her to\u00a0<\/p>\n
the bone.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Natalie followed the light. Even though the yard was overgrown with weeds, she didn\u2019t trip and fall.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cLucian.\u201d Natalie was quite surprised by his appearance.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s getting late. Why are you two still out and about?\u201d Lucian asked.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cMommy and I are living here from now on. Mommy and Daddy got divorced, so we won\u2019t go back to that place,\u201d Sarah\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cSarah\u2026\u201d Natalie tried to stop Sarah, but it was too late.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cCan anyone actually live here?\u201d Lucian gestured at the mess around them.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cDaddy and Grandma must have sent someone to move all the things away. There aren\u2019t even lights in the house, so we can\u2019t stay here tonight. Mommy and I are going to Carmen\u2019s place for the night\u2026\u201d Sarah\u2019s nose felt stuffy, and she sneezed in\u00a0<\/p>\n
discomfort.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cAre you cold?\u201d Lucian asked. He lifted Sarah off the ground.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, it\u2019s so cold. Even my down jacket got all wet.\u201d Sarah rubbed her own nose. \u201cI\u2019m really hungry, too.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYou can get something to eat at my place,\u201d Lucian said to Sarah affectionately.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s okay,\u201d Natalie hastily declined. \u201cWe\u2019re going to Carmen\u2019s place, Sarah, let\u2019s go.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
It was too late at night. It wouldn\u2019t be right for her and Sarah to stay the night at Lucian\u2019s place.\u00a0<\/p>\n
If she hadn\u2019t divorced Rowan, they would still be considered in-laws, so it would be fine. But now, it just didn\u2019t feel right.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cLuc, maybe\u2026 I can go to your place next time.\u201d Sarah could do nothing but obey her mother.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Just then, a puppy\u2019s barks could be heard from the villa next door.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIs that a puppy barking? Is it the puppy we took in last time?\u201d Sarah asked, elated.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, it lives here. Do you want to pay it a visit?\u201d Lucian asked.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYes.\u201d Sarah looked at Natalie. \u201cMommy, can I visit the puppy?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Natalie knew her daughter loved animals. Rowan wouldn\u2019t let Sarah keep pets, so now that Natalie had divorced Rowan, it would be too harsh on Sarah if Natalie opposed the idea as well.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI guess we can go take a look.\u201d Natalie didn\u2019t want to let her daughter down.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThank you, Mommy!\u201d Sarah wrapped her arms around Lucian\u2019s neck as she said sweetly, \u201cThank you, Luc.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

With the flashlight in his hand, Lucian illuminated the way for them. After making it past a collapsed wall, they arrived at the two-story villa next door.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Compared to the small single-story villa Natalie got from Rowan, Lucian\u2019s place was much grander.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat happened to the wall?\u201d Natalie asked casually when they were crossing the collapsed wall between the two villas.\u00a0<\/p>\n
