Your mother probably spends all her time primping and chasing after men-must have forgotten to teach you how to behave properly!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The commotion at the table grew loud enough for Scarlett, seated nearby, to hear every cruel word. She stood up abruptly, strode over, and with one swift motion, knocked the washbasin clattering from the table. She fixed a cold, fierce glare on the woman who had spoken. \u201cIf you have issues with adults, settle them with adults. But how dare you drag a child into this?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In the midst of the confrontation, Vanessa, feeling utterly humiliated and hurt, turned and ran off.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Seeing Vanessa flee, Sabrina quickly excused herself and hurried after her. \u201cVanessa!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Scarlett\u2019s imposing presence and sharp retort had silenced the critical woman, who, realizing she was in the wrong, shut her mouth and retreated.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sabrina chased after Vanessa but soon lost sight of her. Through her tears, Vincent had managed to piece together what had happened.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He had learned that Scarlett\u2019s so-called \u201cimportant business\u201d was simply assisting Clara with her performance. He now understood why people had been gossiping about Vanessa, and he knew about Sabrina\u2019s broken nail, injured while trying to stand up for Vanessa\u2026\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Scarlett guessed that Vanessa must have told Vincent everything. Yet, she refused to be intimidated by his imposing presence.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She replied calmly, \u201cYes, I made a promise to Clara first\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Vincent saw not a trace of guilt in her demeanor-only a stubborn insistence on her own righteousness. He sneered coldly, \u201cYou truly believe you\u2019re justified in this don\u2019t you?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>To Vincent, Scarlett\u2019s failure to prioritize Vanessa was an unforgivable error.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But he had no idea how emotionally numb and resigned Scarlett had become inside.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Scarlett had no desire to explain herself to Vincent. \u201cThink whatever you wish,\u201d she stated flatly.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Vincent felt a profound sense of disappointment.
