closed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I stood up slowly, my joints protesting after sitting still for so long, and made my way downstairs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Orion and Sarah were in the kitchen and they both looked up when I walked in.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Is she okay?\u201d Sarah asked immediately.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe won\u2019t come out,\u201d I said, hearing the panic in my own voice. \u201cShe won\u2019t talk to me and she hasn\u2019t eaten anything.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I ran my hands through my hair.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI need your help, please, I\u2019m begging you both to help me talk to her, I can\u2019t lose her, I can\u2019t live if she\u2019s this angry at me.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Orion looked at Sarah and something passed between them, some silent communication only long married couples could manage.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlease,\u201d I said again. \u201cI know I screwed up, I know I said terrible things but please help me fix this.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Orion stood without a word and walked toward the stairs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I watched him go and felt a tiny bit of relief that maybe he could get through to her, maybe she\u2019d listen to her brother.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>When he was gone I turned to Sarah.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m sorry,\u201d I said. \u201cI\u2019m sorry for disrespecting Athena in your home, for making her cry, for being such an ass about everything.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sarah looked at me for a long moment and I could see disappointment written all over her face.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m disappointed in you,\u201d she said finally. \u201cI\u2019m really disappointed Tristan.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The words stung but I deserved them.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Have you ever seen Orion disrespect me?\u201d she asked. \u201cHave you ever heard him raise his voice at me or make me feel small or tell me I was stupid for trying to help him?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>1 shook my head.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2018No,\u2018 I said quietly.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen why would you disrespect his sister in his presence?\u201d she demanded, \u201cWhy would you think it was okay to treat her that way in Bent of all of us\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She moved closer and I could see anger in her eyes now.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you and I aren\u2019t related, if I don\u2019t know you the way I do, I wouldn\u2019t even want her to have anything to do with you after the way you acted, the way you looked at her like she\u2019d committed some terrible crime by saving your ungrateful life.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>12\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>11:01 pm continued. \u201cTell me, what terrible thing did she do that deserved the way you treated her?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Nothing,\u201d I said. \u201cShe didn\u2019t do anything wrong.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cExactly, Sarah said. \u201cShe risked her life and the life of her unborn children for you, she used powers she barely understands to heal you, she put everything on the line to save you.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She shook her head.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And you woke up and disrespected her, yelled at her, made her feel like garbage for loving you enough to take that risk.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She turned and walked away, leaving me standing alone in the kitchen with her words echoing in my head.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I stood there drowning in guilt and self\u2013hatred, replaying everything that had happened, every word I\u2019d said, every look I\u2019d given Athena.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sarah was right.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>They were all right.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019d been a complete ass and I had no excuse for it, no justification that made my behavior okay.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTristan.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The sound of my name made my shoulders stiffen and I turned slowly, afraid of what I\u2019d see.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Athena stood at the bottom of the stairs and I forgot how to breathe.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She looked like a goddess standing there with the light from the window behind her creating a halo effect around her hair.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The pregnancy had made her even more beautiful somehow, had given her skin a glow and softened her features in a way that made my chest ache.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She wasn\u2019t showing much yet but I could see the slight curve of her stomach, could see evidence of our children growing inside her and it made everything so
