Most people would have frozen up.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKiara taught me well\u201d I said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKiara has always been good at that,\u201d she said making us smile.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She was right, Kiara was good.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We drove for about fifteen minutes before pulling up to a small house on the outskirts of town. It was surrounded by trees and looked\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>peaceful and normal.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The house was cozy and warm, with comfortable furniture and soft lighting. Nothing like what I\u2019d expected from someone who could fight the way Kiara had.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sarah settled the kids on the couch. They were both exhausted and confused, but at least they seemed to feel safe here.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll make some tea,\u201d Leah said, heading to the kitchen.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Kiara brought out a first aid kit and started tending to our injuries, she cleaned and bandaged the cut on Sarah\u2019s arm, which was deeper than I\u2019d realized.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou might need stitches for this,\u201d Kiara said, examining it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s fine,\u201d Sarah said. \u201cJust wrap it tight.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Kiara didn\u2019t look happy about it but did as Sarah asked.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Then she turned to me. \u201cLet me see your neck.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I tilted my head back and she examined the bruises forming there, I could see concern in her eyes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe got you good,\u201d she said gently. \u201cDoes it hurt to breathe?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA little,\u201d I admitted. \u201cBut I don\u2019t think anything\u2019s crushed.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStill,\u201d she said. \u201cYou should see a doctor, just to be safe.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I nodded, though I was already planning to see Mara as soon as possible. We\u2019re still dealing with the situation here but it\u2019s almost over. Stay with Leah and her girls. Don\u2019t go anywhere, I\u2019ll come get you as soon as I can. I love you. Both of you.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Both of you.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He meant me and the baby.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Tears sprang to my eyes and I had to blink them away before anyone noticed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Another text came through, this one from Orion to Sarah\u2019s phone.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone\u2019s okay. We won. The threat is neutralized. Stay where you are. I\u2019m coming to get you. I love you.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sarah let out a sob of relief and I felt my own tears start to fall.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>They were okay. They were alive. They were coming back.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re okay,\u201d I said to the room, my voice breaking. \u201cThey\u2019re all okay.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Kiara smiled. \u201cSee? I told you they\u2019d be fine.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Lily had fallen asleep on the couch, curled up with Liam. Sarah and I just sat there, watching them sleep, waiting for our men to\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>come home.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I looked around at the room, Kiara, Leah, Cara, Maya, and the other lady.
