Who was he? He looked familiar but I couldn\u2019t place his face.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But I saw Seraphine\u2019s face clearly. She was working for Daxon. She was his accomplice.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For how long now?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>My wolf surged inside me and I felt my vision blur with the kind of rage that could level buildings.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The phone creaked in my grip as I watched my pack member betray everything we stood for and everything I believed about her.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTristan.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>70\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Orion\u2019s voice came from behind me, low and strained. I didn\u2019t need to look at him to feel his rage. It was a living thing in the room, a heat that matched the\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>fire in my own blood.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I turned my head and saw his eyes fixed on the phone screen, his jaw clenched so tight I could hear the grind of his teeth.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I turned slowly to face Max who was still bleeding from the silver wounds Orion had given him.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>His face had gone completely white and I could smell his fear mixing with the metallic scent of his blood. A new kind of coldness settled over me.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI gave you a chance to tell me the truth,\u201d I said, and my voice was too calm, too quiet for the storm\/inside me. \u201cI gave you every opportunity and you\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>looked me in the eye and you lied.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Max flinched but didn\u2019t speak.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Seraphine never tried to kill herself, did she?\u201d I asked him and I felt my voice starting to rise with each word.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Alpha I can explain\u2026\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Answer me! The command ripped out of me with the full force of my Alpha voice. It wasn\u2019t a request. It was a compulsion, and his head bowed automatically as his wolf submitted to mine.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He was shaking. \u201cAlpha\u2026\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I took another step, closing the distance between us. \u201cWhy would you do this? Why would you protect her and betray me?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Max swallowed hard and I could see his hands shaking as he tried to find words. \u201cI did it to protect Seraphine,\u201d he finally whispered. \u2018She\u2019s a pack member Alpha. She\u2019s family. Athena isn\u2019t.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The words were a spark to the tinder of my control, I saw red. My wolf screamed for blood and violence and I wanted nothing more than to rip Max apart\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>1\/2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>15:25 Sat, Jan 10\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Chapter 179\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>with my bare hands.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A roar built in my chest and I moved to lunge for him, to tear the lie from his throat with my teeth, but Orion\u2019s hand shot out and locked around my arm. holding me back.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEasy,\u2018 he said quietly but I could see the rage flickering in his own eyes. \u201cWe need the whole truth first.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>His grip was iron, his own anger a palpable force, but his eyes were clear. He was stopping me because we still needed answers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He was right, saving Athena was what\u2019s important for now.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Bringing her back safely, so I need to control my emotions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTell me everything, I growled, forcing the words out. \u201cEvery single detail of what happened and what you know.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Max shook his head, his lips pressed together in a weak attempt at defiance.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSpeak, I commanded again, layering my voice with more power, enough to make his bones vibrate with the need to obey.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Orion moved in closer, his presence looming over Max and his tone turned sharp and dangerous.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMax you and I don\u2019t have a relationship and you\u2019re not under my command but don\u2019t think that means I can\u2019t make you talk. Your Alpha is asking nicely right now. Don\u2019t make us drag the answers out of you. Don\u2019t make this more painful than it has to be.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Max looked terrified as his eyes darted between all of us. He glanced at Derek like he was hoping for help but Derek stepped forward with his voice like ice.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t look at me,\u201d Derek said, his voice cold and flat. \u201cI\u2019m not as patient as they are. The only reason I haven\u2019t caved your skull in for lying to our faces, is because this is his fight. But my patience is gone.
