John\u2019s voice cut off the second he met Halle\u2019s cold stare.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Halle said, \u201cGet out.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
John gritted his teeth, suddenly annoyed. What did I even do wrong?\u00a0<\/p>\n
In his mind, Halle only succeeded because she was a rich kid with money and connections. Otherwise, how could a woman outdo him in the workplace? What was she even so proud of?\u00a0<\/p>\n
But all those ugly thoughts stayed trapped in his head.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Louisa escorted him to HR.\u00a0<\/p>\n

What mattered was the result. Halle didn\u2019t give her any respect and embarrassed her. Skyla was furious, and now, there would be serious consequences!\u00a0<\/p>\n
Her phone kept buzzing.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Skyla calmed herself and answered, \u201cProfessor Payne, what\u2019s up?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Her tone sounded completely normal. She was good at hiding her emotions-that\u2019s what strong people did.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cSkyla, you\u2019re the star of the team! You just met with Ms. Kinsman, and she emailed me saying she\u2019s willing to cooperate. And she only needs half a month-two weeks earlier than I expected.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Skyla froze.\u00a0<\/p>\n
A second later, she replied, \u201cI was just doing my job. I also want the project to move forward smoothly.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019ve worked hard,\u201d Norris said. \u201cI talked to Ms Kinsman for a long time yesterday, and she flat-out refused-no room for negotiation at all. But you went, and everything changed. You definitely deserve the credit.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve told the whole project team. Everyone\u2019s excited. Don\u2019t rush back-have lunch first. Come back to the office this afternoon, we\u2019ll celebrate together.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Skyla said, \u201cOkay, Professor Payne.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Skyla asked Troy to grab lunch with her, then headed toward the caf\u00e9.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll tell you over lunch.\u201d Skyla acted like she didn\u2019t want to talk about it.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rolf thought for a moment, then changed his mind. \u201cFine.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
They left together, and only then did Skyla text Troy to say Rolf was coming too.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Halle suddenly fired John. Ayla looked curious, thinking there must be something wrong with that senior from Agron University.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWho is she?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Halle said, \u201cLet\u2019s go to the restaurant I booked-Riverline. We can look at the river view and eat lobster while I tell you all about it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
They walked into the private room. There was a giant floor-to-ceiling window offering a stunning view of the river and city landmarks. It was a breathtaking look.\u00a0<\/p>\n
