\u201cThey\u2019re adorable,\u201d Lance said, looking up from the bassinets lined side by side in the nursery.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Cassian was sitting on the couch beside me, watching me with barely concealed concern. The two of them had just escorted me and the twins home from the hospital.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThanks,\u201d I said. \u201cI\u2019m glad they\u2019ve got their Uncle Lance\u2019s seal of approval.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd how are you doing?\u201d Cassian asked. \u201cYou still look a little pale.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThe doctor said I was clear to go home. Stop fussing,\u201d I laughed.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m not fussing,\u201d Cassian argued, sitting up a little straighter.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019re like a grandmother,\u201d Lance teased. \u201cHaven\u2019t taken your eyes off her since we got to the hospital.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cDelivering twins is extremely risky,\u201d Cassian huffed in irritation. \u201cIt\u2019s only natural to be concerned.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYou made sure I had the best doctors in Moonstone, so there was really nothing to worry about,\u201d I replied, patting his arm. \u201cCassian, you\u2019ve taken such good care of me these last few months-I can\u2019t thank you enough. Look, I have two healthy, happy babies, and an adorable, cozy room in a safe apartment because of you. So please stop fussing.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cHey now,\u201d Lance interjected. \u201cI get some credit for this cute nursery. I did buy the furniture and their wardrobes.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, you spoiled them,\u201d I laughed. \u201cBoth of you did. They\u2019re so lucky to have you as their uncles.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
A strange look passed over Cassian\u2019s face at my words, but it faded into a smile quickly..\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThe poor things are going to be stuck with us as uncles,\u201d Lance said, glancing back at the babies.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat do you mean stuck with?\u201d I teased. \u201cThey\u2019re lucky to have such doting family.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cStop trying to distract me,\u201d Cassian said firmly. \u201cYou were in labor for eighteen hours. I know you\u2019re still exhausted.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYeah, I am, but\u2014\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cNo buts,\u201d Lance cut me off. \u201cCassian and I are here to watch the babies, so you need to rest. You have to heal. Remember-it\u2019s going to be at least six weeks before you\u2019re cleared for-\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cAnything, I know, I know,\u201d I said with a dramatic sigh. \u201cFine, Dr. Cassian. I\u2019ll go to sleep.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cGood. And you have nothing to worry about,\u201d Cassian said. \u201cLance and I have everything under control with the babies. I promise.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cDo you even know anything about babies?\u201d I asked skeptically.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cNo,\u201d Lance replied automatically.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWell, I do,\u201d Cassian said, rolling his eyes.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYou do?\u201d Lance blinked in surprise.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cMy mother died when I was young, and some of the Luna duties fell to me as I got older. So I\u2019m used to dealing\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cQuit teasing me and go get some sleep,\u201d he replied.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Cassian stood and offered me his arm. Standing was still uncomfortable, even with the pain medication, so I accepted his help. He guided me across the hall to my bedroom.\u00a0<\/p>\n
I sank back into the mattress and pulled the blanket over myself, melting into the soft warmth. Cassian moved quietly around the room, making sure I had water and snacks on the nightstand before dimming the lights.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He was right, of course. The labor had been intense, painful, and frightening. I had expected to go through it all alone aside from the medical staff. I was shocked when Lance showed up with Cassian.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Of course I knew they\u2019d be informed when I went into labor, but I hadn\u2019t expected them to stay by my side, holding my hands through every moment.\u00a0<\/p>\n
I was never going to be able to repay the two of them for everything they\u2019d done-for me and for my babies. They found us a home where we would be safe. They provided everything we could possibly need. And now they were rocking the babies and tucking me into bed.\u00a0<\/p>\n
