Lance took me out to the same bar and grill where we\u2019d run into each other a while back. It was a really nice spot, so I wasn\u2019t about to complain.\u00a0<\/p>\n
I hadn\u2019t really thought through what he meant by \u201ctaking me out tonight.\u201d I should have expected that he meant drinks, of course. Being pregnant, I wasn\u2019t about to consume any alcohol. So as I looked over the drink menu, I found myself feeling a little anxious about what I was going to do. I didn\u2019t want to raise his suspicion.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The waitress came over to take our order. She was young and very sweet, at least judging by her voice and smile.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cHi there! What can I get started for you tonight? Do you know what you\u2019d like to drink?\u201d she asked brightly.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWhiskey neat,\u201d Lance answered easily.\u00a0<\/p>\n
I held the menu up and looked at it thoughtfully. \u201cI think I\u2019ll take this,\u201d I said, angling the menu so that she could see it and Lance couldn\u2019t.\u00a0<\/p>\n
She bent down to look where I was pointing.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cStrawberry, please,\u201d I added quickly, before she could say the item out loud and draw Lance\u2019s attention.\u00a0<\/p>\n
I was pointing to a virgin daiquiri-an alcohol-free mixed drink.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYeah, no problem,\u201d she said with that same bright smile, jotting something down on her notepad. \u201cDo you want any appetizers?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
I didn\u2019t really pay attention as Lance ordered something for us to split. My heart was racing far more than it should have been. It was getting harder and harder to hide my pregnancy.\u00a0<\/p>\n
My conversation with Kieran popped back into my mind. He was right, of course, that waiting until the deal with the Moonstone Pack was settled, so Nolan wouldn\u2019t feel frantic about finding me, was the best option. But I was starting to worry that by the time all of that was done, my pregnancy would be starting to show.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Once my belly started to pop, it would be almost impossible to hide what was happening, especially when Nolan already seemed so suspicious.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019re lost in thought again,\u201d Lance said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
I looked up and realized the waitress had walked away. Lance was just sitting there, watching me as I fidgeted with my napkin.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cSorry. I guess I\u2019m just tired,\u201d I muttered.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cSeems like you\u2019re sleeping a lot lately,\u201d Lance commented. \u201cYou\u2019re feeling depressed, aren\u2019t you? It can make you tired, impact your mood, your appetite. I know you think you\u2019re hiding it well, but it\u2019s pretty obvious something\u2019s going on with you.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
I stared at him, my mouth slightly open, before I managed to respond. \u201cYeah\u2026 I am feeling depressed. It\u2019s just\u2026 ever since my accident-\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cHey,\u201d Lance interrupted gently, \u201cyou don\u2019t have to explain if you don\u2019t want to. I just want you to know that if you do want to talk\u2026 I know Rae\u2019s available, but I\u2019m here to listen too.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI appreciate that,\u201d I said with a tight smile.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThough, if you do want to talk about it, I\u2019m interested,\u201d he added. \u201cI only know what Nolan has told me and I know that\u2019s not the fully picture. What happened with that accident?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah. I hit my head pretty hard. Luckly there was no permanent damage done, except for my memory loss. The doctor isn\u2019t sure if my memories will come back or not,\u201d I explained. I avoided his eyes and played with the cloth napkin in my lap.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s so intense\u2026 I can\u2019t believe that ass told me you were faking the memory loss,\u201d he muttered to himself.\u00a0<\/p>\n
I scoffed. I wasn\u2019t surprised that Nolan was downplaying my accident to people. It was just like him to assume that I was lying, even when all of the evidence backed me up.\u00a0<\/p>\n
